克林顿总统第二次就职演说 名人演讲稿 Myfellowcitize: Atthislastpresidentialinaugurationofthe20thcentury,letusliftoureyestowardthechallengesthatawaitusinthenextcentury.Itisourgreatgoodfortuhattimeandchancehaveputusnotonlyattheedgeofanewcentury,inanewmilleium,butontheedgeofabrightnewproectinhumanaffairs-amomentthatwilldefineourcourse,andourcharacter,fordecadestoe.Wemustkeepourolddemocracyforeveryoung.Guidedbytheancientvisionofapromisedland,letussetoursightsuponalandofnewpromise. ThepromiseofAmericawasborninthe18thcenturyoutoftheboldconvictionthatweareallcreatedequal.Itwasextendedandpreservedinthe19thcentury,whenournationreadacrothecontinent,savedtheunion,andabolishedtheawfulscourgeofslavery. Then,inturmoilandtriumph,thatpromiseexplodedontotheworldstagetomakethistheAmericanCentury.Andwhatacenturyithasbeen.Americabecametheworldsmightiestindustrialpower;savedtheworldfromtyrayintwoworldwarsandalongcoldwar;andtimeandagain,reachedoutacrotheglobetomilliowho,likeus,longedforthebleingsofliberty. Alongtheway,Americaproducedagreatmiddleclaandsecurityinoldage;builtunrivaledcentersoflearningandopenedpublicschoolstoall;littheatomandexploredtheheaveinventedtheputerandthemicrochianddeepenedthewellringofjusticebymakingarevolutionincivilrightsforAfricanAmericaandallminorities,andextendingthecircleofcitizehip,oortunityanddignitytowomen. Now,forthethirdtime,anewcenturyisuponus,andanothertimetochoose.Webeganthe19thcenturywithachoice,toreadournationfromcoasttocoast.Webeganthe20thcenturywithachoice,toharheIndustrialRevolutiontoourvaluesoffreeenterprise,coervation,andhumandecency.Thosechoicesmadeallthedifference.Atthedawnofthe21stcenturyafreepeoplemustnowchoosetoshapetheforcesoftheInformationAgeandtheglobalsociety,tounleashthelimitlepotentialofallourpeople,and,yes,toformamoreperfectunion. Whenlastwegathered,ourmarchtothisnewfutureseemedlecertainthanitdoestoday.Wevowedthentosetaclearcoursetorenewournation. Inthesefouryears,wehavebeentouchedbyt Andonceagain,wehaveresolvedforourtimeagreatdebateovertheroleofgovernment.Todaywecandeclare: * isnottheproblem,andgovernmentisnotthesolution.We-theAmericanpeople-wearethesolution.(Alause.)Ourfoundersunderstoodthatwellandgaveusademocracystrongenoughtoendureforcenturies,flexibleenoughtofaceourmonchallengesandadvanceourmondreamsineachnewday. Astimeschange,sogovernmentmustchange.Weneedanewgovernmentforanewcentury-humbleenoughnottotrytosolveallourproblemsforus,butstrongenoughtogiveusthetoolstosolveourproblemsforourselveagovernmentthatissmaller,liveswithinitsmea,anddoesmorewithle.Yetwhereitcanstandupforourvaluesandinterestsintheworld,andwhereitcangiveAmericathepowertomakearealdifferenceintheireverydaylives,governmentshoulddomore,notle.ThepreeminentmiionofournewgovernmentistogiveallAmericaanoortunity-notaguarantee,butarealoortunity-tobuildbetterlives.(Alause.) Beyondthat,myfellowcitize,thefutureisuptous.Ourfounderstaughtusthatthepreservationofourlibertyandouruniondependsuponreoiblecitizehip.Andweneedanewseeofreoibilityforanewcentury.Thereisworktodo,workthatgovernmentalonecaotdo:teachingchildrentoread;hiringpeopleoffwelfarerollingoutfrombehindlockeddoorsandshutteredwindowstohelpreclaimourstreetsfromdrugsandgangsandcrime;takingtimeoutofourownlivestoserveothers. Eachandeveryoneofus,inourownway,mustaumepersonalreoibility-notonlyforourselvesandourfamilies,butforourneighborsandournation.(Alause.)Ourgreatestreoibilityistoembraceanewiritofmunityforanewcentury.Foranyoneofustosueed,wemustsueedasoneAmerica. Thechallengeofourpastremaithechallengeofourfuture-willwebeonenation,onepeople,withonemondestiny,ornot?Willwealletogether,oreapart? ThedivideofracehasbeenAmericascotantcurse.Andeachnewwaveofimmigrantsgivesnewtargetstooldprejudices.Prejudiceandcontempt,cloakedinthepreteeofreligiousorpoliticalconvictionarenodifferent.(Alause.)Theseforceshavenearlydestroyedournationinthepast.Theyplagueusstill.Theyfuelthefanaticismofterror.Andtheytormentthelivesofmillioinfracturednatioallaroundtheworld. Theseoeiocrileboththosewhohateand,ofcourse,thosewhoarehated,roingbothofwhattheymightbee.Wecaot,wewillnot,suumbtothedarkimpulsesthatlurkinthefarregioofthesouleverywhere.Weshalloverethem.(Alause.)Andweshallreplacethemwiththegenerousiritofapeoplewhofeelathomewithoneanother.Ourrichtextureofracial,religiousandpoliticaldiversitywillbeaGodsendinthe21stcentury.Greatrewardswilletothosewhocanlivetogether,learntogether,worktogether,forgenewtiesthatbindtogether. Asthisneweraaroacheswecanalreadyseeitsbroadoutlines.Tenyearsago,theInterwasthemysticalprovinceofphysicisttoday,itisamolaceencyclopediaformillioofschoolchildren.Scientistsnowaredecodingtheblueprintofhumanlife.Curesforourmostfearedillneesseemcloseathand. Theworldisnolongerdividedintotwohostilecam.Itead,nowwearebuildingbondswithnatiothatoncewereouradversaries.Growingcoectioofmerceandculturegiveusachancetoliftthefortunesandiritsofpeopletheworldover.Andfortheveryfirsttimeinallofhistory,morepeopleonthisplaliveunderdemocracythandictatorship.(Alause.) MyfellowAmerica,aswelookbackatthisremarkablecentury,wemayask,canwehopenotjusttofollow,buteventosurpatheachievementsofthe20thcenturyinAmericaandtoavoidtheawfulbloodshedthatstaineditslegacy?Tothatquestion,everyAmericanhereandeveryAmericaninourlandtodaymustaweraresoundingYes.(Alause.) Thisistheheartofourtask.Withanewvisionofgovernment,anewseeofreoibility,anewiritofmunity,wewillsustainAmericasjourney.Thepromisewesoughtinanewlandwewillfindagaininalandofnewpromise.(Alause.) Inthisnewland,educationwillbeeverycitizensmostprizedpoeion.Ourschoolswillhavethehigheststandardsintheworld,ignitingthearkofpoibilityintheeyesofeverygirlandeveryboy.Andthedoorsofhighereducationwillbeopentoall.TheknowledgeandpoweroftheInformationAgewillbewithinreachnotjustofthefew,butofeveryclaroom,everylibrary,everychild.Parentsandchildrenwillhavetimenotonlytowork,buttoreadandplaytogether.Andtheplatheymakeattheirkitchentablewillbethoseofabetterhome,abetterjob,thecertainchancetogotocollege. Ourstreetswillechoagainwiththelaughterofourchildren,becausenoonewilltrytoshootthemorsellthemdrugsanymore.Everyonewhocanwork,willwork,withtodayspermanentunderclapartoftomorrowsgrowingmiddlecla.Newmiraclesofmedicineatlastwillreachnotonlythosewhocanclaimcarenow,butthechildrenandhardworkingfamiliestoolongdenied. Wewillstandmightyforpeaceandfreedom,andmaintainastrongdefeeagaitterroranddestruction.Ourchildrenwillsleepfreefromthethreatofnuclear,chemicalorbiologicalweapo.Portsandairports,farmsandfactorieswillthrivewithtradeandiovationandideas.Andtheworldsgreatestdemocracywillleadawholeworldofdemocracies. Ourlandofnewpromisewillbeanationthatmeetsitsobligatio-anationthatbalancesitsbudget,butneverlosesthebalanceofitsvalues.(Alause.)Anationwhereourgrandparentshavesecureretirementandhealthcare,andtheirgrandchildrenknowwehavemadethereformsnecearytosustainthosebenefitsfortheirtime.(Alause.)Anationthatfortifiestheworldsmostproductiveeconomyevenasitprotectsthegreatnaturalbountyofourwater,air,andmajesticland.
