Module 4 Which English Music(建议用时35分钟). 阅读理解A(2017福州模拟)I still read out loud to my son. He is in fifth grade and an avid reader. He plows through books and is currently devouring(津津有味地看)The Hobbit which he calls “addicting”. But he still likes it when I read out loud to him before bed. Ive always read to him, I could probably recite Goodnight Moon by heart and I like to think it has helped to instill his love of reading in him. But as hes gotten older, reading to him has changed. The books are longer, of course, and sometimes he corrects me if I misread a word in the dim light of his room. But whats really changed is what we both get out of it. When I was in fifth grade, I had a wonderful teacher, Mr Hanks, who would read aloud to the class after lunch. I remember him reading Roald Dahls Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and me hanging on every word. I could hardly wait for lunch to be over to find out what happened next to little Charlie Bucket. Now Im giving the same gift to my own son. Last week he brought me a copy of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol he found on the shelf and asked me to read it to him. One of the bonuses of reading to an older child is you can revisit a beloved book from your past or be exposed to a book you have never read yourself. Such was the case with A Christmas Carol which I admit I had never read. So when I started reading I worried that it would be a tough go since the book uses expressions and the language Dickens used in the 1840s. I found myself having to define things such as braziers and balustrades. But in the wonderful descriptiveness of Dickens prose, my son was especially taken with his description of Scrooges house where he had often played hide-and-seek with other friends. 【文章大意】本文作者讲述了自己给儿子读书的经历。1. Since I discovered it two years ago, Ive used music to get through boring work or to focus creatively. Ive found that it can make even the dullest jobs enjoyable and help clear mental blocks to creativity. I first noticed the good effects of music while playing video games. It was a few days before Christmas in 2014 and I was playing online video games. My parents had just given me a new MP3, so I decided to listen to music through the headphones while I played. 1I was playing more naturally. The music relaxed me, and, to a certain extent, distracted me from the game, allowing my subconscious(潜意识的)talent to come through. 2With those headphones on I was like a machine, moving from one task to the next without unnecessary thoughts or actions. 3If Im in a bad mood at work, Ill listen to some of Bob Marleys and get down to business. It always takes my mind off what Im doing and makes me a happier person. 4One summer, I did a boring job collecting bottle openers by hand. Without a radio playing classic rock in the background, I would have hated life. Listening to music with relaxing rhythms and a positive message helps you forget your work and think happy thoughts. But the results you see will depend heavily on your personal tastes. Experiment with the types of music you listen to during certain tasks. 5Im always looking for new concentration aids, so Id love to know what type of music works best for me. A. The same is true for classic rock. B. By trial and error youll finally discover your best choice. C. Look for the music that is popular among the young. D. The music also helped me block out the outside world. E. Listening to music will relieve you of your pain. F. After a few minutes I noticed a great change in my style of play. G.
