QC/T 218-1996ForewordThis standard is the modification of automobile industry standard ZB/T T36 014-90 Technical Conditions of Automobile Steering Column Upper Combination Switch.The original standard was successful in content and structure; this time we modified and amended some contents which has found has problems during application based on the original standard.The modification refers to Japanese standard JIS D1605-1988 Performance of Automobile Turning Signal Switch and JIS D 1601-1990 vibration testing method for Automobile Components.The format of this standard is compiled according to the requirements of GB/T1.1-1993 Directives for the work of standardization-Unit 1: Drafting and presentation of standards-Part 1: Rules for publishing standards.Modified content is as follow:For vibration test: the original standard cited ZB T35 001, which was found, has unreasonable place during application; it is modified according to Japanese standard JIS D 1605-1988 and JIS D 1601-1990 based on case study and verification works. External dimensions checking were clarified to “external, installation and connection dimensions which has direct influence to functional performance”. It clarified the related standard about the technical conditions and test method for steering column lock. It canceled the ex factory insulation resistance checking considering the feature of batch production; and the check will be carried out in type inspection. This standard was proposed by Bureau of Automotive Industry Ministry of Machinery Industry. P.R China. This standard is under the jurisdiction of National Automobile Standardization Technical Committees. This standard was drafted by Huayang Electron Device Factory. This standard was mainly drafted by: Xia Yongzhong This standard will replace ZB/T T36014-90 from the implementation date of this standard.National Standard of the Peoples Republic of China Technical Conditions of Automobile Steering Column QC/T 218-1996Upper Combination Switch replaces ZB/T T36 014-901. ScopeIt is stipulated in this standard the technical requirements, inspection rules and test method of automobile steering column upper combination switch. This standard is applicable to combination switch assembled on automobile steering column (hereafter as “combination switch”).2. Normative referenceThe following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. At time of publication, the editions indicated were valid. DefinitionsThis standard adopts the following definitions:3.1 Steering column upper combination switchIt is assembled on the steering column and composed of more than two switches for controlling automobile light, signal and manipulating electrical devices.3.2 Automatic return mechanismThis mechanism is assembled inside of witch, and when the turning lamp handle is under L or R shift status, steering wheel return to its original position from turning left or turning right, will make the handle return to neutral shift and be installed on the framework in the switch. 3.3 Speed characteristicIt is a characteristic when the automatic return mechanism knows the _Approved by Ministry of Machinery Industry. P.R China 12-18- 1996 Implemented on 09-01-1997QC/T 218-1996steering wheel returning with a high speed; it will cancel the turning signal.3.4 Anti-interference characteristicIt is a characteristic when the turning lamp switch handles is at left shift or right shift status, compulsory keep the handle at its position by an external force and rotate the steering wheel to automatic return direction, it can endure this kind of compulsory action.4. Requirement4.1 General requirement4.1.1 StructureThe combination switch should be conformity to the requirement of this standard; and it should be manufactured according to the stipulated drawing and design document.4.1.2 Process qualityThe combination switch should have good process quality: the structure should be complete and no damage, no miss installation, no missing part. Connection place like rivet, press connecting and screw connecting should be fastness without loosening; braze welding of lead should be fastness, there should be no false welding or sealing off; for the other position, there should be no process defects which will influence the performance and appearance.4.1.3 Appearance The combination switch should have good appearance quality: the surface painting film should be even, no air bubble, no blank or pile, no overflowing; black metal parts should be coated with anti corrosion layer; for the plastic part, there should be no cracking or deformation which will influence the application and appearance.4.1.4 The external and installation dimension The external, installation and connection dimensions of combination switch which has direct influence to the performance, should be comply to the stipulation of this product drawing.4.1.5 Confidential The combination switch with steering lock can keep adequate confidential; the key teeth combination numbers should not be less than 1000.4.2 Function The combination switch normally will include partial or all functions listed in Table 1; and of course, it also can have the functions which not list in Table 1.Table 1SortNameTypical working shift and functionsLight controlDip switchHigh beam, low beam and flashingTurning lamp switchBreak, turn left, turn right, automatic return, change the laneLight master switchBreak, headlamp, front position lamp, rear position lampDanger warning switchBreak, switch onBrake lamp switchBreak, switch onFog lamp switchBreak, switch onElectrical device controlWiper switchBreak, low speed, high speed, interval, spot movement, automatic returnWasher switchBreak, switch onHorn button switchBreak, switch onPower supply controlIgnition switchLock, switch on, ignition, pre-heat, startAnti theft mechanismSteering lockUnlock, lock, interlock, insurance4.3 Symbol The figure symbol of control, indicate and signal of combination switch should conform to the stipulation of GB 4094.The marking of each terminal post should conform to the stipulations of ZB T36 009 or product standards.The figure symbol of ignition switch and steering lock shifts should conform to the stipulations of QC/T 29029 or product standards.4.4 Rated loadingThe rated loading of combination switch should conform to the stipulation of the standard of this type of product.4.5 Environmental conditions4.5.1 Temperature resistanceThe combination switch should work properly under the condition of 40 to 65.4.5.2 Hot and humid resistance The combination switch should stand 40 high temperature 6 days damp heat cyclic test and the insulation resistance after the test should conform to the stipulation of 4.114.5.3 Vibration resistanceWhen test the combination switch according to 6.15 test conditions, there should be no loosening on switch contact point. In frequency sweep test, there should no shift displacement or shift skip. After the test, the switchover force should conform to the stipulation of 4.6.2; voltage drop should conform to the stipulation of 4.9; insulation resistance should conform to the stipulation of 4.11.4.5.4 Salt mist resistanceAfter the salt mist test, check the combination switch shift and insulation resistance, and they should conform to the stipulation of 4.6.1 and 4.11.4.6 Operating characteristic4.6.1 ShiftAll the shifts of combination switch should be agile, with accurate and reliable positioning, no loosening or block phenomenon. The switch with automatic return mechanism should return to its original position accurately after the external force is canceled.4.6.2 Switchover forceThe switchover force (or torque) for the switch changing from one shift to another shift should conform to the stipulation of the standard for this kind of product. Difference between left and right switchover force should be not more than 30%. After the durability test, absolute value of switchover force changing should be no more than 40% of the value before test.4.6.3 Speed characteristicThere should no fail to cancel action or exceed happen on steering lamp switch with automatic return mechanism when the steering wheel is returning at the speed of 150 r/min.4.6.4 Anti-interference characteristic For the steering lamp switch with automatic return mechanism and anti-interference mechanism, when the steering wheel is returning, the handle is compulsory kept at the steering position, there should be no block to steering gear or the damage of the switch structure.4.7 StrengthThe combination switch should stand the following damage test:4.7.1 For handle kind of switch, give a 49 N force to the position 10 mm away from the handle end (please see Figure 1) 1 minutes, the handle can not be bent, and the inside structure can not be damaged. When it is at neutral position, give a force downwards perpendicular to the handle operating side; when it is at right shift, give a clockwise force; when it is at left shift, give a counter clockwise force. For the handle switch with more than three shifts, the left shift and right shift are the limits shifts.Handle rotating centerFigure 14.7.2 For the rotating switch and lock ignition switch, give a 2 N.m torque to the knob or key front/opposite limit shifts separately, and the time is 10 seconds, there should be no structure damage or key deformation.4.7.3 For the steering lock, it should conform to the stipulation of QC/T 29029.4.8 Electroplated coating and chemical treatmentThe electroplated coating and chemical treatment of metal part should conform to the stipulation of JB 2864.4.9 Voltage dropConnect a rated current (connect a 10 A current to ignition switch), all kinds of switches in a combination switch, the voltage drop of spanning two ends of the contact point should not exceed 150 mV before the durability test, and it can not exceed 250 mV after the durability test.4.10 Temperature rise When the ignition switch of the combination switch is connected to a rated current, the temperature rise of the contact point can not exceed the stipulation in Table 2.Table 2Material of the contact pointTemperature rise Copper or copper alloy40Silver or silver alloy604.11 Insulation resistanceThe insulation resistance between every switch off contacts, closure member and other metal parts, under the normal status and after the durability test, should not less than 1 M; it should not less than 0.05 M under hot and humid status.4.12 Durability All kinds of switches of combination switch, their total switchover times should conform to the stipulation of Table 3. The product ordering party has the right to recheck the product according to this standard.5.2 Ex factory inspection Every batch of the produced combination switch needs to be checked ex factory; for the inspection level and sampling plan of the checked sample, it is recommended to use GB 2828 normal checking level II, one time normal sampling check plan. Items and qualify level of the ex factory inspection should conform to the stipulation of Table 4.Table 4Items Technical requirementTest methodAcceptable quality level AQLAppearance inspection4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.1.3, 4.1.5, 4.2, 4.36.24.0External and installation dimension inspection4.1.46.32.5Shift inspection4.6.16.41.0Voltage drop inspection4.96.102.5When the inspected sample meets the requirement of Table 4, we can say it is qualified.5.3 Type inspection The manufacturer should carry out type inspection when one of the following situations happened:a) Trial producing and appraise for new product final appraised or old product change to another plant for production;b) When there is great changes like product design, process or raw material on the product which may influence the product performance;c) The product which is not produced frequently is produced again when the interval of last production is more than one year;d) Inspect it every two years for the batches product or great produced product;e) When the China State supervision and inspection organization propose to inspect the product.The type inspection for combination switch: take 9 pieces of combination switches as samples from the product which is qualified approved by the inspection of ex factory, and divide them into three groups. The inspection items and procedure conform to the stipulation of Table 5.All of the type inspection of combination switch must conform to the stipulation, if there is any item is unqualified, take double products as samples to inspect the unqualified item again; if there are unqualified products, this batch of product are considered unqualified. But for the durability test, it is not allowed to take double products as sample to recheck.6 Test methods6.1 Test conditions If there is no special requirement, the test of combination switch will be carried out in a lab with normal environment; the accuracy of the voltmeter used in the test can not lower than 0.5 grade, and the ammeter accuracy can not lower than 1.0 grade; all the measuring tools, equipment used in the test and inspection should inside of qualified effective date.6.2 Appearance inspection Check the appearance of the combination switch visually; it should conform to the stipulation of 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.1.3, 4.1.5, 4.2, and 4.36.3 External and installation dimension inspection Check the external dimension, installation dimension and connection dimension by qualified gauge and measuring tools according to the product drawing and technical conditions; the result should conform to the stipulation of 4.1.4.6.4 Shift inspection Install the combination switch onto test bench according to its actual application conditions, connecting the circuit to a 12 V direct current voltage and a direct current lower than 0.5 A to indicator. Circulate the working circulation 3 to 5 times to check all the switches, structures and shifts should conform to the stipulation of 4.6.1. For the turning lamp switch with automatic return mechanism, check the return mechanism by two methods of turning the steering wheel and hand.6.5 Speed characteristic inspection Install the combination switch onto test bench according to its actual application conditions, keep the handle of turning lamp switch at left (or right) shift position. Rotate the steering wheel counter clockwise at the speed of 150 r/min, and finish the return action.
