Unit 4 Animals 课下练熟高考阅读理解提速练练速度(限时:20分钟)AA popular TV host has reportedly invested about US $740,000 in a project to research, preserve and promote the Hunan provincial dialect (方言)Chinese TV presenters are required to speak Mandarin, or Putonghua, as part of their work, but should dialects be allowed on air?Bcnu (China): TV and radio stations have the right to decide whether dialects or Mandarin will be used in their programs. The popularity of some dialects in some areas will not challenge the leading role of Mandarin in the whole country.Rick N (US): TV and radio broadcasters should take the lead in popularizing Mandarin. To require hosts to speak standard Mandarin is not to oppress (压制) dialects, but it only aims to restrict irresponsible use of language.I think it is unprofessional for some hosts particularly to imitate the pronunciation of dialects.Cooper (UK): Dialects are an important part of local culture and now many kids even dont know how to speak their dialects because of the main use of Mandarin around them.It would be a pity if future generations were unable to understand the local dialects. It would be a terrible break in cultural traditions.Steve (France): To attract viewers or make more money, some hosts casually use dialects.Demanding TV and radio programs use Mandarin is a move to limit strange and irresponsible use of language, whether it is Mandarin or other dialects. In this way, the decision is also a form of protection for dialects.Hearing standard Mandarin on TV and radio programs is also a basic right of audiences around the country.语篇解读:本文是一篇应用文。作者主要就“方言是否应该出现在播放的节目中”这一话题给出了来自不同国家的人的观点。1Why does the author mention a popular TV host?ATo make clear the authors viewpoint.BTo introduce the topic to be discussed.CTo set an example for people to follow.DTo show dialects are likely to disappear.解析:选B推理判断题。根据文章内容可知,本文作者围绕“方言是否应该出现在播放的节目中”这一话题给出了来自不同国家的人的观点,由此可推知,作者提及一个受欢迎的主持人是为了引出本文要讨论的话题。故选B。2What affects dialects negatively according to Steve?AMass medias using dialects casually.BImproper pronunciation of dialects.CRestrictions on speaking dialects publicly.DChildrens losing interest in dialects.解析:选A细节理解题。根据最后一段第一句中的“some hosts casually use dialects”以及“a move to limit strange and irresponsible use . form of protection for dialects”可知,Steve认为大众媒体对方言的随意使用对方言有消极的影响。故选A。3Who favor dialects on air?ABcnu and Steve.BBcnu and Cooper.CRick N and Steve. Although rather shocking, it should not surprise anyone who has seen the doggy parlors (客厅) where loved pets rest. Are Americans unique in treating their little friends in this way? No, the English, too, pay more attention to their pets. This can clearly be seen when we look at pet foods, which often contain more vitamins than human food. They certainly cost much. Last year the British public spent two hundred million pounds on pet food alone, to say nothing of veterinary bills or animal furniture. It is difficult not to feel angry about this when considering what the same amount could do for victims of starvation and poverty, so it is not unusual for me to_get_hot_under_collar_when I read an old man left all his money to his dog instead of his children. There are a variety of reasons why I find petsraising alarming. They cause physical problems. An example of this is New York where they have great difficulty getting rid of the mess that dogs leave on the streets. Many people find this funny, but in a number of large cities it is a major problem. Animals can cause disease, too. It is the threat of rabies a disease with no known cure.Another problem is the carelessness of pet owners. Most little children want a dog or a cat, and they continually push their mothers and fathers until they get one. It is only when the “sweet little thing” has been brought home that the parents realize how much time and money must be spent on “Rover” or “Bonzo”. Then they just abandon it. As a result, they are allowed to run free. English farmers lose hundreds of sheep a year, killed by someones pet and you must have read of children being hurt by some pets of their own.Lastly, I would only suggest that we have got our priorities wrong and that something should be done about it. In my view, its time we stopped being sentimental about pets. I can see no reason why we should get upset when animals are cut up for medical experiments. This will lead us to discover cures for serious human diseases, and then I say, “Keep cutting!”8.The doggy parlors are mentioned in the 1st paragraph to show _.Awhere Americans keep their petsBwhat costly lives the pets
