thetwomonkswhobroughtscripturesfromindiawereburiedhere.manymonksfromoutsidechinahavevisitedthemonkandmanyofthemhavespenttherestoftheirtimeinthattemple.thefamoustangdynastymonk-xuanzangstartedhis17yearslongpilgrimagetriptoindianfromthetemple.afterreturning,xuanzhangbecametheabbotofthewhitehorsetemple,wherehedisseminatedthescripturesofbuddhismfortherestofhislife. attheendofguanlinnanlu,heromanceofthreekingdoms,theshugeneralguanyuwasdefeated,capturedandexecutedbysunquan,therulerofthestateofwu.fearingrevengefromguanyusbloodbrotherliubeiwhowastherulerofthestateofshu,sunquanorderedtosendguanyusheadtocaocao-rulerofweiinanattempttodeflecttheresponsibilityforthedeath.caocao,however,wasanadmirerofguansloyaltyandbravery.heorderedawoodenbodybecarvedtoaompanytheheadbeforeguanyuwasburied.
