conduct a decadelong census(统计)of sea life.Scientists presented some of their findings at a recent conference as the project neared its completion. In deep icy waters under Antarctica, scientists found bulbous tunicates,an underground animal, and many newlydiscovered creatures believed to be related to starfish(海星)and other marine(海洋的)creatures.Elsewhere in the worlds oceans, they have recently discovered many kinds of underwater life forms new to science. It is all part of a research effort called the Census of Marine Life.“There are about 2,000 scientists worldwide involved,” said Bob Gagosian,President,CEO of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership.Gagosian helps manage the project.“Everywhere theyve gone theyve found new things,” he says.“The ocean basically is unexplored from the point of view of marine living things.”Researchers have placed small markers on hundreds of fish and marine animals to track by satellite their migration(迁移)routes and to discover places where sea life gathers.According to Ron ODor,a senior scientist with the Census of Marine Life, knowledge of life on the ocean floor is especially limited.“90% of all the information we have is from the top hundred meters of the ocean,” ODor states. And he says the sea floor is,on average,at a depth of 4,000 meters. And so,as some machines dive far below what people have previously seen, scientists are discovering new species of plants, animals and living things.Since the census project began, more than 5,300 new marine animals have been found.Ocean researchers say they hope to catalogue 230,000 species during the censuswhich some say is only a small part of all the creatures living in the sea.1Why do the researchers place small markers on many marine creatures?ATo catch them.BTo research them.CTo kill them.DTo protect them.2From what Ron ODor says,we can conclude that _.Ahuman beings only know a little about marine lifeBthe oceans dont need to be further exploredChe considers exploring the ocean a dangerous thingDthe marine creatures mainly live on the top of the ocean3What can we learn from the passage?AAbout 2,000 scientists from America are involved in the project.BThe census of sea life will last for ten years.C230,000 new marine animals have been found.DThe sea floor is at a depth of 400 meters.4Why does the author write the passage?ATo tell the news that new marine creatures are being discovered.BTo encourage people to find new marine creatures.CTo prove the importance of marine creatures.DTo introduce the newlydiscovered creatures.BWhen you watch TV and play video games you make global warming worse! It may seem hard to believe, but when electricity is made,so are greenhouse gases. This means that every time you use electricity you help make global warming worse!Cars are also making global warming worse. They burn fossil fuels(化石燃料)in their engines, and send lots of greenhouse gases into the air.Global warming may be a big problem, but we can all help stop it.People can try to drive their cars less.Or even get ones that run on sunlight! You can also help.Lets try one of these top ideas:(1)Try to use less electricity.Turn off lights, your television, and your computer when youve stopped using them.To make electricity, fossil fuels are burned in big factories. But burning fossil fuels also makes greenhouse gases. You should also try to watch less TV.(2)Plant trees. Not only is it a fun thing to do,but it is also a great way to lower the number of greenhouse gases in the air.Trees take carbon dioxide out of the air when they grow.(3)Dont throw away your rubbish, try to recycle it.If rubbish is not recycled,it is put in the ground. There it rots(腐烂)and makes a greenhouse gas called methane(甲烷)So try to recycle cans, bottles, plastic bags and newspapers.Itll make you feel great! And itll help the Earth.5If we _,we may make global warming worse.Ause less electricity Bdrive a car on sunlight Cplant trees Dthrow away rubbish6We may use more electricity by _.Aturning off lightsBshutting down computersCturning up CD playersDturning off TV7Using less electricity does good to global warming because_.Athe less electricity is used, more greenhouse gases are produced8Which is the following is NOT true according to the passage?ADriving cars on sunlight helps to stop global warming.BWhen cars burn fossil
