And we often receive help from others.In that case, what do you usually do?Suggested answers:1) Give him or her a sincere smile.2) Make a telephone call to thank him or her.3) Write a thank-you note.4) Try to help him or her in another way.Brainstorming: When do you need to write a thank-you note?Encourage the students to discuss and think out as many situations as they can.Possible situations:1) When you have received gifts sent by mail.2) To the hostess after being invited to a party.3) After receiving letters of encouragement or congratulations.4) After receiving beautiful flowers while you are in hospital.Step 2 ReadingStudy the thank-you note by Jenny on the textbook on page58 to find out:1) For what did Jenny express her thanks to her aunt?2) In what way can we write a thank-you note well?a. Tell the students that a thank-you note is usually short. The main topic is to show ones thanks to another person. So they shouldnt enlarge it into a composition.b. The date is not always necessary. Step 3 Writing1) Assign the writing task.Annie 原以为好友Rose结婚后把她忘记了,却意外在6月10日收到了Rose寄来的生日礼物精美的小雕像(figurine)。她觉得这个小雕像非常适合放在书架(bookshelf)上。Annie认为此礼物会永远提醒她想起她俩的友谊。她对此写信从心底向Rose表达感谢之意。2) Let the students work in groups, examine the topic carefully and try to express it orally.3) Check several groups in order to collect more information.4) Comment on their work. Remind them of the things they should pay attention to, including the date, the sentence order, and some useful expressions. Suggested expressions:a. 适合:be fit for; be perfect forb. 使某人想起某事:remind sb. of sth.c. 从心底里:from the bottom of ones heart5) Let the students write a rough draft, and then check and make revisions by themselves.6) Instruct the students to exchange and revise their writings in pairs.7) Get the students to write their final copies.8) Encourage some students of different levels to read their writings in class.9) Give them necessary comments and instructions.10) Show the students one possible version. Let them read and appreciate it. Sample: June,10 Dear Rose, It was kind of you to remember my birthday. Thanks a lot for sending me a nice gift. The beautiful figurine is just perfect for my bookshelf.To tell you the truth, I thought you have forgotten me since you married. Anyway the gift will always remindme of our friendship. I really appreciate it. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
