希腊神话故事集1. Pandoras Box潘多拉魔盒Pandoras box is not just a box, but something that will bring bad luck and misfortunes(不幸) to the earth. In order to punish humans and Prometheus, Zeus created a beautiful girl named Pandora. When she was married to Prometheus brother, she was asked not to open a box. But Pandora opened the box because she was curious. All the misfortunes run out.2. Achilles Heel 阿基里斯之踵Achilles is son of a human and a goddess. When he was born, his mother knew he would die in the field, so she took him to the Underworld river to dip(沾水，沁水) him. When doing so, she took Achilles one heel, forgetting the other. So in the war, Achilles heel got injured and he died. People use Achilles heel later to mean something in a person that can be easily damaged or hurt.3. Trojan Horse 特洛伊木马计During the 10-year war, Trojan city was too strong to be broken into. So Greek soldiers built a big wooden horse and they hid in this horse. Trojan people took the horse into the city and didnt know the danger was coming. During the midnight, Greek solders came out and destroyed this city. Now Trojan horse usually means a hidden danger/risk of being attacked.4. Golden Touch 点金指Golden touch is a magic that can turn everything into gold. King Midas loved gold very much, so he prayed(祷告) to god to give him some magic(魔力). The next morning when he touched everything, it all turned into gold. But when he touched his daughter, she turned into gold also. Even when he touched his food, it turned into gold. He was unhappy and hungry so he prayed to god to take the golden touch back. 5. Under the rose 秘密！请保持沉默Venus had many lovers and among them, Ares (罗马神话中称Mars) , the War God, was her favorite. They had a son, named Jupiter(罗马神话中称Eros) and this Jupiter brought some roses to the God of silence, because he didnt want people to talk about his parents. So now “under the rose” means what being discussed should be kept as a secret.6. Sphinx 狮身人面像 Sphinx is a human-faced and lion-bodied monster(怪物). She asked people to work out her riddle (谜语): What is it that has four legs in the morning, two legs in the noon and three legs in the evening. People who couldnt answer the riddle will be eaten. The answer, of course, is “human”.7. Atlas 托天巨神阿特拉斯 Atlas is a strong Titan god(泰坦巨神) that shoulders the sun in Greek mythology. He was asked by Zeus to support the sun and not to make is fall down. This work is very painful and boring, so he wanted to get rid of it. But it seems nobody but himself can accept his job.8. Daphne 月桂女生达芙妮 Daphne is a young beautiful girl. When Apollo saw her, he fell in love. But Daphne couldnt accept his love. She tried to escape from him but failed(失败了). She was tired and asked her father to turn her into a laurel(月桂树) tree. 9. Pan 吓人的潘神 When Pan was born, his mother deserted him because he looked very frightening(吓人的). Later Pan was taken to Zeus. Pan likes playing jokes on people and enjoys frightening others by his awful look.10. Jupiter 爱神丘比特 Jupiter is a little god with wings. He likes playing with arrows and bow(弓箭). It is said he had two arrows, a gold one and a lead one. People got shot by gold arrow will easily fall in love, while people got shot by the lead arrow will be afraid of love. Apollo and Daphne, is just a good example. Jupiter is the son of Goddess of beauty and God of war, that is, his parents are famous people, Venus and Ares. 11. Zeus 宙斯 The greatest God of all Olympian Gods is Zeus. He has the greatest power and takes Hera, his sister as his wife. But he has many lovers, which greatly angers Hera. Zeus is also God of judgment. 12. Athena 雅典娜 Athena is the Goddess of wisdom and she is also protector of City Athens (雅典). She was born with no mother and jumped out of Zeus head, fully armed(全副武装的).13. Poseidon 波塞冬 Poseidon is one of Zeus brothers, the other being Hades. He is God of the ocean and also protector of all sailors and fishermen. 14. Gold Apple 金苹果 The goddess of discord (不和) was not invited in the wedding, which greatly angered her. She threw a gold apple, with the words “To the most beautiful” among the guests. Athena, Venus and Hera all wanted to get the apple. Later this apple was given to Venus, but the result is tragic (悲剧的), a 10-year war took place. 这说明神们有多么任性。15. Delphi Oracle 德尔菲神谕 In the temple of Apollo, there is a stone inscription(石刻铭文): know yourself . Th
