摘要 红楼梦是一部伟大的文学作品，被认为是包罗万象的百科 全书。单就文学形式方面看，它就包括了诗，词，曲，赋，诔，对 联，灯谜，酒令等。其中的对联除几副曾雪芹假拟清客之口所作以 外，大多对仗工整，涵义隽永，意境深远。这些对联一方面非常切 合书中的人物和场景，反映了相关人物的性格，点明了不同处所的 特点，衬托了全书的主题：另一方面它们又可以独立成篇，即使脱 离原文，其哲理和意境也有很高的鉴赏价值。 对联的翻译一直是个难点，其原因主要在于对联的风格在另一 种语言中难以找到对应物。但对联不是不可译的。在霍克斯和杨宪 益的两个红楼梦全译本中，对联的风格得到了很好的传达。本 文将要探讨的就是两位译者在对联英译中分别对其风格的把握问 题。试图回答三个问题：两位译者是怎么传达对联的风格的? 他们 之间有什么异同? 这些异同是怎样造成的? 本文除去引论和结论共包括四个部分：第一章介绍本文分析两
