摘要 在舍伍德安德森的众多作品中，小镇畸人是最具代表性的作品。他不仅描写 了从农业国向工业国转变的美国社会，而且还为当时的美国诊断了社会弊病，并且深 入刻画了那个时代美国人的心灵。这部作品是完全意义上的美国式的小说，它脱离了欧 洲文学对美国文学的影响，真i _ f 展现了美国人自己的世界。 现有的相关文献表明，对小镇畸人的研究大都关注该小说中所谓畸人的“畸形”。 本文虽然也关注“古怪”这个主题，但是却通过对“古怪”这个概念追本溯源，解释造 成古怪的原因，比较不同作家对于“畸人”和他们古怪行为的不同理解。通过分析这些 “畸人”的内心，体察他们那原本天真纯朴的心灵，这一点是非常必要的。而对这些的 研究表明，安德森并不是使用“古怪”这个词的第一人，这个词在不断的使用，发展和 变化中也被赋予了不同的含义。本文还重点分析了温斯堡人在对待宗教上以及处理性和 婚姻关系上所体现出来的“古怪”和文本本身与众不同的特点。而所有这些古怪之处正 是温斯堡人纯朴善良的体现，同时也体现了安德森对儿时田园生活的向往和期许。 安德森笔下的畸人，在美国文学史上产生了深远的影响。他不但塑造了“畸人”其 实并不古怪的典型形象，还奠定了具有独特魅力的美国中西部小说的风格。同时他的作 品也深深影响了美国的后世作家，如海明威，德莱塞和李维斯等。小镇畸人所展现
