如今，看美剧和好莱坞电影已成为年轻一代日常生活的一部分。作为翻译 研究者，在网上海量供应的美剧和好莱坞电影背后，我们看到的是巨大的字幕 翻译的供给和需求。国外( 特别是欧洲国家) 对于字幕翻译作为一种独立的翻 译类型的研究已经有将近半个世纪的历史，并在翻译的策略、规范和质量控制 方面都有一定的共识。与之相比，字幕翻译在中国起步很晚，但是我们要看到 的是，现在数量庞大的外语影视作品的流行和传播，为中国字幕翻译的研究提 供了一个很好的发展环境。 本文以中文字幕版的美国电视剧丑女贝蒂作为个案研究对象，以德国 功能主义作为理论基础，探讨字幕翻译的相关特点和翻译时所采取的策略。根 据功能主义的“目的论”，字幕翻译是有目的的行为。不同的影视作品对应着 有不同的反应策略，以实现不同的翻译目的。 喜剧片丑女贝蒂是一部在美国和中国都深受欢迎的电视剧，其主要面 向的是年轻一代观众；同时在中国传播时，它的受众是有一定知识水平，对美 国主流文化和价值观感兴趣或者有一定程度认同的观众；此外，不排除还有一 部分中国观众选择收看丑女贝蒂是出于语言学习和了解文化的目的。因而， 字幕翻译者只有充分考虑到这些因素，才能使观众最大限度地感受到大电视剧 想要表达的意义，同时满足观众对本剧的期待。 我们认识到，与传统的文学翻译相比，字幕翻译本身受到很多条件的制约，
