Man: Excuse me, I wonder if you can tell me how to find a place where I can have my shoes fixed? Im new in town.Woman: Well, of course, you could always look in the yellow pages in the back of the telephone book under Shoe Repairs, but I think there is a good shop not far from here. Take the first street to the left and walk about three blocks. I cant remember the name of the shop, but you cant miss it. Its near the police station. By the way, do you know about the Town Guide? It has all kinds of useful information. I think you will find it in any bookshop.Man: Thanks a lot. Youve been very helpful. And Ill look for the Town Guide next time Im in a bookshop. Lets see, you said the repair shop was right, then three blocks down?Woman: No, first street on the left. Then three blocks.Conversation 02答案:1.B 2.C 3.A听力原文:Woman: Welcome to our city, Mr. Lewis - but, of course, you have been here before, havent you?Man: Yes, I have. What a good memory you have! I was here for the Arts Festival last year.Woman: And what will you be doing on this visit?Man: Oh, I came here primarily for a holiday and to see some friends. But I will also be giving some private cello lessons as well.Woman: I believe that your cello is rather special. Is that true?Man: Oh, yes. It was made for my uncle by a very expert German cello maker called Schuster. When I began cello lessons at the age of eight, he said that when I grew big enough to handle a full-sized cello, he would give it to me.Woman: So when a child begins to play the cello, he or she starts on a smaller instrument?Man: Of course, or he would be very uncomfortable. Many children begin with a half-sized cello, but as I was big for my age, I began with a two-thirds-sized cello.Woman: Are you going to other places on this trip and will you take your cello with you?Man: Yes, very definitely.Woman: But isnt it difficult taking a cello around with you?Man: Not really. I just reserve two seats when Im traveling anywhere, one for me and one for my cello. Its such a precious instrument to me that it hardly ever leaves my side.Conversation 03答案:1.B 2.A 3.D听力原文:W: Art Department, Professor Brown speaking.M: Hello, Professor Brown. My name is Frank Molloy. Im thinking about taking your course of acrylic painting, and Im calling to find out more about it.W: Have you ever worked with acrylic paints?M: Ive done very little painting at all. Im a chemistry major but enjoy drawing, and the course description says that any student can sign up. I assume that means that experience in painting isnt necessary.W: Yes, thats right. Well be using acrylic paints instead of oil because they are easier to handle and dry more quickly, also beginning students can get a good feel of what they can do with textures by working with the acrylic paints.M: My roommate is also a chemistry major, but he has painted quite a bit. If he signs up for the course, would he find it too easy?W: No, he could work on using techniques he already knows, and applying them to principles of composition, color and design. Theres something for everyone in this course.M: One more question. Do we need to bring our own brushes and paints to class?W: Yes, you can buy them in the bookstore. Ill provide drawing board and any other supplies that are necessary. I hope you decide to join us.M: It sounds interesting. Ill definitely register today.W: Fine. See you next Monday afternoon, and dont forget your brushes and paints. A: Good morning. Can I help you?B: Hi, Im looking for an apartment to rent and I wanted to talk to you about what you had to offer right now.A: Yes, of course. Let me first take down a few details about what youre looking for to see whether theres anything I can offer you, and then Ill take a few personal details if thats OK. So first of all the size of the flat - what kind of flat are you looking for? How large?B: Well, Im not sure because I dont know what I can afford, but ideally I suppose I would look for three rooms - so its what you would call a two-bedroom flat here.A: Right. So two bedrooms. And have you thought where?B: Well, I need to take the train to work and in the evenings I often stay at work and come home quite late, so I guess the general area would be north of the station.A: Fine, yes, this seems logical, although of course flats near the station are quite expensive. How far away from the station are you willing to consider?B: Well, I suppose if its basically about fifteen-minute walk away from the station, thats OK - no, actually, lets say ten minutes from the station. Yes, ten minutes s the farthest I would be willing to go.A: OK. And how much are you willing to pay?B: How much do you think somewhere like this will cost me?A: Well, it depends of course on other things, though mainly on whether its furnished, unfurnished or partly furnished. Have you thought of that?B: Yes, and were going for an unfurnished flat.A: Well, in that case youre slightly better off, but still in this area the least youd expect to pay is probably 400 a month - and that wont get you a nice place. If you want something nice, youll have to be willing to pay more. You can see, here are three sample houses of 480, 600, 750, respectively.B: All right. I think I can only afford the second one, no more.A: OK. Any other points you would want to make before we start looking?B: Yes. Firstly, its got to be on the ground floor; and then weve got two young kids, so preferably Id like the flat to be near a children playground, and then a school. But these two requirements - near the playground and near a school - these two are not that important because we can always manage with the car.A: OK. Now if you would just let me have a few personal details - your name .Tips:这是一篇发生在租赁和销售房屋的Real Estate Agency的对话,这类对话主要旨在问讯和获取信息,即Inquiry & Request,因此试题重在考查听解信息的准确性,往往对具体细节进行提问或判断对错。 What are the two speakers going to discuss after this conversation? 2. B事实题,找到女士说的话“But the article I read mentioned ways to compensate for that?” W: Exercise, exercise, exercise. We hear so much about it these days, yet even the experts cant agree on which exercise are the best. Now some doctors are strongly encouraging arm exercises.M: Arm exercises? Is that because our arms are too fat or flabby?W: Actually, thats not the main reason. They say that arm exercises are an ideal way to become physically fit.M: But dont arm exercises raise your blood pressure?W: That they do. But the article I read mentioned ways to compensate for that?M: How?W: By adding leg exercises, so the arms dont do all the work. Arm exercises alone arent enough to increase metabolism before fatigue sets in. The more of the body thats involved in the exercises, the better.M: And in turn, Im sure that theres a great chance of losing weight.W: Sounds right to me.M: So what exercises do the experts recommend?W: They mentioned quite a few, but some of the more popular ones are cycling with special bicycles that make you use both arms and legs. And walking vigorously while you wear arm weights.M: I must try that. I like to walk a lot. How can we know the meaning of the word flabby without the help of the dictionary? W: Walter, why havent you been coming to Prof. Crosleys anthropology class?M: What do you mean? Ive been there every morning!W: Every morning? But.oh, I get it. You must be in the professors morning class in Cultural Anthropology. Im in her afternoon class in Social Anthropology. So tell me, how do you like her class?M: Oh, its very interesting. So far weve been studying the art, the architecture, and the tools of different cultures. And this Saturday, our class is going down to the local museum. Theyre having an exhibit of the artifacts of the early inhabitants of the area.W: Your class has quite a different focus from mine. Were studying social relations in groups. For example, this week weve been talking about marriage customs and family life in a number of societies - including our own.M: So whats your opinion of Prof. Crosley?W: Well, she asks her students to do a lot of work - were going to have two tests and two research papers. But shes a fascinating lecturer. Ive never taken an anthropology course before, but Im glad I decided to take the course.M: Yeah, same for me. In fact, I never thought of anthropology as an interesting subject, but now I sure do. How do you describe Pro. Crosleys class? Woman: Excuse me. Dr. Tyler, your secretary said I should come right in.Man: Please do, Janny. How can I help you?Woman: I need to get your signature on my schedule card here, on the line aboce advisors approval.Man: Sure, but lets look it over together first. How many courses do you have here?Woman: Six.Man: Six? Thats quite a heavy load. Any particular reason?Woman: I had to drop my chemsitry course last term when I was in hospital. So I need to take it again.Man: So youve already learnt a lot of the material.Woman: Right. And calculus is part of the second year requirements.Man: Lets see, chemistry, calculus. Oh, I see youll be in my seminar on the modern American novel.Woman: Yes, Im looking forward to it and the romantic peotry seminar, too.Man: Two seminars? That is rather a lot. Can you handle the work?Woman: I think so. The introductory economic is very easy and so is the musical course.Man: Well, then Ill be happy to sign the card. However, I insist that you come see me after the first week of classes, so we can make sure this isnt too much for you.Woman: Its a promise. Woman: Hello, Mark. Have you ever played cricket? Man: No, never. Have you, Jane?Woman: No, but I once watched a game at the Cricket Club.Man: Did you enjoy it?Woman: No, not much, though everybody else seemed to. I found it very slow. Nothing much seemed to happen. Perhaps that was because I didnt really understand what was going on.Man: Its a bit like baseball, isnt it?Woman: Well, not really. In baseball there is only one man with a bat but in cricket there are two.Man: Both at the same time?Woman: No. They take turns. They each stand at one end of the pitch in front of some sticks called stumps or the wicket. A member of the other team, the bowler, throws the ball at the stumps. The batsman tries to protect the wicket and hit the ball as far as he can.Man: What happens when he hits the ball?Woman: The batsmen run to change positions. Thats called a run. They do it as many times as they can.Man: What does the other team do?Woman: One of them runs after the ball and throws it at the wicket. If he hits it while the batsmen are still running, one of them is out.Man: That sounds a little like baseball.Woman: Not really. I think baseball is more exciting.Man: Yes, so do I.Conversation 09答案:DCA听力原文:Man: My brother Mike has just done a course at the Green Park Outward Bond Center.Woman: Really! What made him decide to do that?Man: Well, for one thing, some boys in his class decided to do it and they dared him to go with them!Woman: You mean he didnt really want to go?Man: I think he wanted to go but I think he was also a little frightened. Of course, now that hes done it, hes very pleased with himself and hes always talking about it.Woman: So he enjoyed it, didnt he?Man: Not exactly. I think hes enjoying the feeling of having done it more than he enjoyed actually doing it!Woman: What sort of things did he do?Man: Oh, all sorts of open-air activities: hiking, camping, canoeing. One thing he had to do was to capsize a canoe and then right it again without getting out. He said the water was very cold but that he hardly noticed it at the time.Woman: Why not?Man: He was too busy righting the canoe!Woman: That doesnt sound very comfortable at this time of the year.Man: Thats what I said when he told me. On another occasion he had to spend a day and a night by himself in the open country.Woman: Was he frightened?Man: He was at first, apparently, but then he got used to it.Woman: It seems to me that the course did him a lot of good. I expect its made him more self-reliant. Man: Thats what he says - and now he wants me to go!Conversation 10答案:CABC听力原文:Man: Miss Gish, I hear youve just finished a film, Hambone and Hillie. Did you like it?Woman: Well, I havent seen it not a scrap of it! I came out to California, did my work and flew home. Its not like it was in the old days, you know, when you were part of a picture from beginning to end.Man: Tell me, did you enjoy making movies as much today as you did 60 years ago?Woman: Oh, no! Because then it was interesting. Today everybody is so bored. In the early days you had a chance to participate, to learn about everything, and to become involved.Man: Is it easier to make films today?Woman: Oh, I think it was much harder to make silent films than these talking pictures.Man: Whats your daily regimen?Woman: Im up at 7:00, and do my exercises, and by 10:00 Im ready. I dont have lunch, because I have a big breakfast and I have dinner at 5:00.Man: One of the things that has kept you going, I think, is that youve been so involved artistically in your work.Woman: Well, it was interesting. And now it is boring.Man: But youre not bored?Woman: Oh, goodness no! Not me! I tell you, this is the most exciting century in history. Passage 07 D A CShopping for clothes is not the same experience for a man as it is for a woman. A man goes shopping because he needs something. His purpose is settled and decided in advance. He knows what he wants and his objective is to find it and buy it; the price is a secondary consideration. All men simply walk into a shop and ask the assistant for what they want. If the shop has it in stock, the salesman promptly produces it and the business of trying it on proceeds at once. All being well, the deal can be and often is completed in less than five minutes, with hardly any chat and to everyones satisfaction. For a man, slight problems may begin when the shop does not have what he wants, or does not have exactly what he wants. In that case the salesman, as the name implies, tries to sell the customer something else. He offers the nearest he can to the article required. No good salesman brings out such a substitute bluntly; he does so with skill and polish: “I know this jacket is not the style you want, sir, but would you like to try it for size? It happens to be the color you mentioned.” Few men have patience with this treatment, and the usual response is: “This is the right color and may be the right size, but I should be wasting my time and yours by trying it on.”Passage 08 B C D CNothing in recent years has so changed the economy of the United States as the development of the supermarket. Previously, people bought their food in small grocery stores, generally located on a nearby comer. Now, almost everyone shops in large supermarkets. The small independent grocer has practically disappeared from the American scene. When a supermarket is established in a certain section of a city, other smaller stores rise up around it almost immediately. The entire group of stores becomes what is known as a shopping center. The average supermarket covers about 35,000 square feet of shopping area. It should have one parking space for every 300 square feet of shopping area. Six out of every ten American shoppers drive to the supermarket.Statistics show that the average American housewife goes to the supermarket twice a week. On the average she spends from one to two hours there each week. Psychologists say that women dont go to the supermarket just to buy food. Visiting the supermarket is the housewifes chance to get away from home for a while. In the supermarket she feels that she is part of the outside world. She gets to know all the new products. Frequently she meets a number of her friends in the supermarket.Passage 09 C D C CThere are four basic types of blood: A, B, AB, and O. A simple test can show a persons blood type. Everybody is born with one of these four types of blood. Blood type, like hair color and height, is inherited from parents.Because of substances contained in each type, the four groups must be transfused carefully. Basically, A and B cannot receive AB, but AB may receive A or B. O can be given to any other group; hence, it is often called the universal giver. For the opposite reason, AB is sometimes called the universal receiver. However, because so many reactions can happen in transfusions, patients usually receive only salt or plasma until their blood can be matched as e
