硕士学生论文 x l a s t e r r i l e s i s 内容摘要 本文主要依据六十年代以来国内外学者对跨文化交际及文化教学的研究成 果，阐述文化因素在外语教学中的重要性：并结合当前我国大学公外英语教学 的现状，分析阐明学生社会文化知识贫乏是交际能力低下的原因之一，从而力 图探索一些比较适合我国大学公外英语文化教学的新途径。 一，f 文化教学的理论基础主要来源于语言学、人类学和心理学。在语言学和语 言教学领域，h a l l d a y 及r o b e r tl a d o 曾提出在学习外语的同时，需要注意目 的语的文化。h y m e s 也曾指出，语言是一个多样化的组织，人们对语言的运用 会受到许多园素的制约，文化则是其中的一个重要因素，根据h y m e s 所提出的 有关交际能力的学说，学习语言的最终目的是使用所掌握的语言知识和技能进 f 育效的交际。而语言能力只是交际能力四个组成部分中的其中之一，因此仅 有语苦能力，要想顺利地进行交际是远远不够的：对目的语的社会文化知识的 掌握也是交际能力的一个重要组成部分，在我国，学者们对跨文化交际和文化 教学的研究始于八十年代。许国璋先生曾强调指出，在不同的语言中，许多表 面上对等的词汇实际上在文化内涵上并不相等，其原因在于不同的文化具有不 同的传统及价值观念。因此在外语教学中注重语言与文化的关系是十分必要的。 此后，许多学者开始对文化问题进行研究并陆续发表许多论著。人类学中的文 叱人类学对文匕敦学影响甚大。著名人类学家e d w a r dh a l j 于1 9 5 9 年出版的 r i l es i l e n tl a n g u a g e 被看作是跨文化交际学的奠基之作。在该书中，h a l l 对 于文化与语言及非语言交际的关系作了深入的探讨。h a l l 强调文化在人类交际 中的重要性，尊揭示出语占与文化之间存在着互动的关系。也认为，人类生活中 没有哪一方面不与文化相联系并为之所改变。e d w a r ds a p l r 与b e n a m i n1 r h o r f 对于语言与文化的关系也曾提出过一个假说，认为语言不仅反映文化的形态， 而且语言结构对于人们的世界观也有着决定性的影响。在心理学领域，荷兰学者 g e e r zh o f s t e d e 在其名著白， 玎p 7 sc o n s e q u e n c e s 以及国1 t u r e sa n d o r s a n i z at i o n s ：s o f t w a r eo ft h e ，胁d 中，对文化及文化差异进行了透彻的 分析。h o f s t e d e 将文化称为”心灵的程序”和“心灵的软件”。他认为，文化 硕士学伍论，己 m a s t e r i t s i s 之于人犹如程序之于计算机。文化就象事先写好的程序样，它能决定人的行 动。人若想脱离自己的文化而行动，就会象计算机不按软件运行一样困难。由 此可见，文化对于交际行为的确有着重大的影响。 然而在我国的实际英语教学中，文化知识的输入问题还没有得到足够的重 视。作者于2 0 0 1 年6 月对武汉金融高等专科学校二年级的专科学生进行了一次 随机抽样测试，测试内容为英美社会文化知识，其中包含习俗文化、历史文化、 地域文化及认知文化四个方面，测试结果表明学生对社会文化知识的了解程度 普遍较低。这不能不说是给了当前的英语教学一个重要的启示。有关文化教学 的理论研究已经进行了几十年，文化与语言、文化与交际的内在联系已经是广 为接受的理论依据；然而在实际英语教学中，仍然没有将文化因素提上重要议 程，我们不能否认这是目前我国公外英语教学中的一个薄弱环节。 针对目前这种状况，作者在本篇论文中结合公外英语教学的实际情况，提 出了一些有关文化教学的思路与途径。当然语言教学的核心和重点仍然是语言 基础知识本身，但是如何在教语言的同时进行有效的文化输入是面临公外英语 教学的一个重要课题，同时也是本篇论文的研究重点。作者建议在课堂内和课 堂外采取不同途径对学生进行跨文化能力的培养。其中在课堂内的教学活动中， 通过对语言知识的传授和语言技能的培养，同时进行有效的文化输入。这其中 主要涉及对富含文化内涵的词汇的讲解以及在阅读教学中传授必要的文化背景 知识。另外，作者还谈及当前公外英语教学中所存在的一些问题。目前的公外 英语教学大纲中没有明确对学生社会文化能力的要求，对于学生使用语言的得 体性没有引起足够的重视。而且，目前大部分公外英语教学听使用的教材只注 重语言形式，已不太能适应实际需要。此外，当前的四、六级测试及学期考试 也是以测试学生的语言基础知识为主要内容，对学生实际运用语言的能力仍然
