华中科技大学硕士学位论文 摘要 本研究采用语篇补全测试问卷和回忆陈述，调查了3 0 名美国人( 平均年龄5 8 岁) 和6 3 名非英语专业本科生( 平均年龄2 0 岁) 的英语拒绝语。以美国人的语料 为基准，参照b e c b ce ta l 的语义公式对语料进行整理分类，从四个方面比较学习者 和母语者英语拒绝语的异同，即语义公式使用的频率、起始语和交际者社会地位对 语义公式频率的影响、和语义公式的内容。 研究结果表明，学习者的拒绝语同时表现出本族语和目的语的特征。首先，学 习者和母语者使用了相似的语义公式，而且有些频率相近。例如：两组受试者最普 遍使用的策略是给出理由，并在肯定的回应和直接策略的使用上无显著性差异。但 是在提供选择和表达感谢策略的使用上，学习者显著地少于母语者。当学习者与母 语者交流时，由于较少提供选择和表示感谢有可能被母语者误认为粗鲁，导致误解。 另外，学习者的拒绝语冗长，不如母语者简洁得体。第二，受试者的拒绝语因起始 语不同而表现出差异。拒绝请求时，两组策略使用相似；但拒绝邀请、提供和建议 时表现出差异。表达感谢是母语者拒绝邀请，提供和建议时的基本成份，但学习者 使用偏少。第三，学习者和母语者拒绝社会地位高的交际者时，采用了更多的缓和 策略。回忆陈述中也反映出母语者对社会地位的敏感，这可能由于大多数母语者是 退休的职业人士，娴熟的社交技巧让他们尽量少用直接拒绝，多用礼貌策略。这也 说明一种语言或文化的交际风格会因具体场合、交际者的性别、年龄和职业不同而 有所变化。第四，从语义公式的内容上看，学习者拒绝社会地位高的交际者时比拒 绝其他社会地位的交际者更礼貌；而对待社会地位平等或低的交际者时，学习者的 语气比母语者生硬。另外，语义公式的内容反映了中美文化的一些特征。例如：学 习者常因父母的原因拒绝上级，常用老师的权威拒绝学生的建议，可见孝道和等级 观念根深蒂固。母语者将笔记视为隐私，表现出隐私观念。口头陈述中反映的观念 和语义公式的使用基本一致。 本文的最后讨论了本研究对外语课堂语用能力教学的意义和局限。 关键词：言语行为拒绝语礼貌语义公式 华中科技大学硕士学位论文 a b s t r a c
