But this bias against divorce has become history. Today, an ever greater proportion of Chinese families, either in big cities or in remote countryside, have ended up in divorce. What has gone wrong to render the Chinese family structure so fragile in our era?More Chinese Youngsters Are Studying AbroadBack in the 1980s, going abroad was beyond the wildest dreams of us ordinary Chinese people. This dream, however, has translated into reality for a greater number of people in our country. Statistics indicate that about 10% Chinese youngsters choose to go to such foreign countries as America or Japan for college education. How can we account for this new trend among Chinese young people? DINK In the traditional Chinese culture, giving birth to a child (especially a son) was the most important family obligation for married couples. But this duty is no longer so appealing or binding to people in our era. According to a recent report, up to one third young couples prefer to live a life with double incomes and no kids. Such childless people are commonly referred to as DINKS.More Left-over Women TodayTraditionally, women usually got married in their early twenties. But this tradition is no long holding sway in our country today. Reports inform us that an increasing percentage of women, particularly those well-educated social elites, choose or are compelled to stay single. These women are generally but incorrectly referred to as left-over women. How should we look at this phenomenon?Massive Joblessness of College GraduatesBefore 1995, college students in China were guaranteed jobs upon graduation. But this national policy has become history. Today, young people have to spend their last school year running from one job interview to another and still many of them fail to land a job in time. What has given rise to this depressing problem for college graduates?Para. 1 Method 2exemplification Rising Divorce Rate in China My best friend in town got married 7 years ago but recently chose to drop the curtain on her marriage. She is certainly not a rarity of rarities in our society today. The recent survey tells us that over one third young Chinese couples, either in rural areas or in urban regions, have broken up. We cannot help wondering what the driving force behind this new social practice is.Massive Joblessness of College Graduates My neighbors son graduated from college last July but up to now has still not landed a job. The young man is definitely not exceptional in such a situation. In fact, at least 30% college graduates have trouble getting employed in time. This state of affairs has now become a focus of the public concern. Massive Joblessness of College Graduates 2My nephew graduated from college last July but he is still staying at home jobless. He is by no means an exception in being so unfortunate. As a matter of fact, over 45% college graduates reportedly have trouble finding a job in time and this problem seems to be going from bad to worse. How should we interpret this distressing problem for young people today?Private CarsMy cousin started to work only two years ago. But like a growing number of young people in our country, he has also become a private car owner. In light of a recent statistic, as many as one third city families have at least one car. It is by no means exaggerating to say that we Chinese people are becoming increasingly car-crazy. People Are Delaying Their marriageMy cousin is already 35 years old but she still chooses to enjoy her celibacy. She is absolutely not exceptional in making such a choice. According to a recent survey, about one third marriageable young people stay single and this is particularly true in big cities. We cannot help wondering what is the driving force behind this delay of marriage for young people in our era.Para. 1 Method 3circumspection Values of Failure It is only too natural for every one of us to strive for success in life and work. But life experience tells us that our efforts may not pay off every time. When we fail to achieve our goal, some of us may get so disappointed, frustrated and desperate as to think that the world has come to its end, refusing to see that failure does have its values.Elements of success It is only too natural for every one of us to strive for success in our life and work. Success can bring us wealth, respect and admiration from others, higher social status, and a sense of satisfaction, to name just a few. But we all know that success doesnt happen naturally and effortlessly. This being the case, what qualities do we need to have in order to be a success in our era?Para. 2 Cause analysis Para. 2 cause analysis | different opinions | merits or demerits | listing Topic sentence + A B C (three causes) A not = B not = C 75-80 wordsRising Divorce Rate in China A= womens financial independenceB= the tolerance of the society C= greater temptationsIf we pause to reflect on this phenomenon, we can easily come up with the following factors. First and foremost, it has a great deal to do with womens financial independence, which discourages them from bearing what is unbearable. Secondly, it is attributable to the greater tolerance of our society, in the context of which divorce is no longer a family disgrace. Last but not least, we are confronted with more temptations that are created by mass media and made possible by the high mobility of population in our times. Rising Divorce Rate in China 2A=Openness temptation created by media mobility of population B=Self-centered give in C=Womens financial independence If we pause to think about the phenomenon, we can easily come up with the following factors. First and foremost, it has a great deal to do with womens financial independence, which discourages them from bearing what is unbearable. Secondly, young people today are most likely the single child of their parents and they may be too self-centered to give in when contradiction arises. To make matters worse, our society is faced with greater temptations that are created by media and made possible by the high mobility of population. More Chinese Youngsters Are Studying AbroadA=Wealth B=Education quality C=Foreign universities open their doors to us This brand-new trend stems from a combination of factors as follows. In the first place, as a result of 30-year fast economic boom, many Chinese people have become wealthy enough to afford their childrens tuition in foreign universities. In the second place, the education quality of overseas universities is supposedly superior to that available at home. Equally important, western countries, strong in education and struck by the economic recession, make their education a profitable business by opening their doors to Chinese youngsters. More Chinese Youngsters Are Studying Abroad 2This new trend certainly doesnt spring from nowhere. In the first place, more and more Chinese families have become rich enough to afford the tuition of their childrens education in foreign universities. In the second place, the teaching quality in foreign universities is supposedly superior to that in Chinese colleges or universities and this better education will pave the way for young peoples professional development. Last but not least, struck by global economic recession, western countries have made their universities profitable enterprises by admitting more and more Chinese youngsters. DINK A= pressure B= conception of family C= environment This choice of childlessness certainly doesnt spring from nowhere. For one thing, young people today are subjected to a very fast pace of life and heavy pressure in their job places. This compels them to delay or cancel their plan for child birth. For another, the conception of family has radically changed and children are no longer an essential element of this social unit. To make matters worse, people are becoming increasingly skeptical about our physical environment and the quality of food we eat, which might affect the health of fetus or babies born today. DINK 2This choice of childlessness is driven by a number of factors. To begin with, people are subjected to a faster pace of life and a heavier pressure in job places and this situation forces them to postpone or cancel their birth plan. Besides, the notion of family has changed in our era and children are no longer an essential element of a family. To make matters worse, people are becoming less and less certain about the food we consume and more and more skeptical about our worsening environment. Such things may cause harm to our future generation. Traveling Abroad A=Wealth B=Open the doors to Chinese tourists C=Curiosity about exotic cultureThe enthusiasm about traveling abroad among us Chinese people stems from a variety of factors. For one thing, as a result of 30-year fast economic boom, many of us have become wealthy enough to afford sightseeing in foreign countries. For another, Chinas reputation improves on the international stage and more and more countries open their doors to Chinese tourists. Equally important, tired of places of interest within China, people are becoming all the more curious about exotic culture and scenic spots in other countries. Traveling abroad 2The enthusiasm that Chinese people show about traveling abroad certainly doesnt happen for no reason. In the first place, many of us have become wealthy enough to afford the cost of sightseeing in foreign countries, thanks to the fast economic boom in the past 30 years. In the second place, as China gains higher international status, more and more countries are willing to open their doors to the Chinese tourists. Last but not least, people in China are very curious about foreign culture and want to see with their own eyes the exotic lifestyle and scenic spots in other countries.Unemployment of college graduates This massive unemployment of college students stems from the following causes. Firstly, as a consequence of higher education expansion, the supplies of college graduates far exceed the demands of the society. Secondly, young people today hold too high expectations as regards the salary and location of their first jobs. To make matters worse, China is also suffering from the ripple effects of global financial crisis, which has caused the evaporation of numerous job opportunities. Para. 2 Different opinions2 opinions contrastive Economic Development or Environmental Protection Back in the 1970s, when Mr. Deng came into power, China was very backward economically. So this great visionary advocated that development should be accorded topmost priority. In the following 35 years, our economy has boomed considerably. But that doesnt happen for no price. In fact, China is now confronted with a dilemma: which should come first, economic development or environmental protection? In response to this question, many people choose to give their first consideration to economy. In their opinions, economic prosperity will help create more job vacancies and in turn maintain the social stability. Besides, when we are powerful enough, we will be in a better position to protect environment. Other people, however, think differently. In their eyes, a healthy environment is a guarantee for quality life. In addition, the ecosystem in China is already fragile enough, best evidenced by long successions of hazy days in spring and scorching heat in summer. Good Major or Famous University? In reaction to this question, a considerable percentage of people regard good major as important. In their minds, a good major can be a source of interest and passion that can propel them to learn it well. Whats more, good disciplines of study can make students more marketable in our society today. Many other people would take the fame of a university into their first consideration. In their understandings, a famous university provides better education resources and learning environment. More importantly, our society is more willing to welcome college graduates from famous universities. Para. 2merits and demerits S1 (topic sentence for merits) S2 S3(merits) S4 (transition to demerits) S5 S6 (demerits) Online ShoppingThis new mode of shopping is praiseworthy in at least two aspects. Firstly, it saves time and labor and this point is particularly appealing to men. Secondly, it saves money, for commodities bought online are generally cheaper than what is available in department stores. Meanwhile, we cannot afford to neglect its potential disadvantages. For one thing, the quality of goods from online stores is not always guaranteed. For another, in the process of shopping online, we may leak our personal information unknowingly and that may cause us unexpected troubles. Online educationIn the past, when it comes to education, we would naturally think of going to school. But this is no longer always the case with the advent of the Internet technology. Today, more and more people, old and young, turn to the Internet for information and knowledge that is vital to their life and career. In our era, online education is gaining popularity. The merits of the online education are only too apparent. In the first place, this new mode of education is much cheaper than the traditional classroom teaching. In the second place, it is convenient, for people can arrange their learning any time without having to commute between school and home. Meanwhile, its demerits are also noteworthy. On one hand, learning is basically a social process and young people need to interact with their peers and teachers to understand some points of knowledge well. On the other hand, it is unimaginable for one professors lecture to cater nicely to the needs of large numbers of people.Para. 2listing Values of Failure It is only too natural for every one of us to strive for success in life and work. But life experience tells us that our efforts may not pay off every time. When we fail to achieve our goal, some of us may get so disappointed, frustrated and desperate as to think that the world has come to its end, refusing to see that failure does have its values. If we think about failure carefully, we can recognize its following values. Firstly, it teaches us useful lessons that enable us to realize that we are either not hard-working enough or make efforts in a wrong direction. Secondly, failure renders us more mature and better prepared for greater challenges in the future. Last but not least, failure may make our subsequent success sweeter and more enjoyable, whether you have realized this or not. Elements of success It is only too natural for every one of us to strive for success in our life and work. Success can bring us wealth, respect and admiration from others, higher social status, and a sense of satisfaction, to name just a few. But we all know that success doesnt happen naturally and effortlessly. This being the case, what qualities do we need to have in order to be a success in our era?To succeed in our era, we must first of all be diligent and perseverant enough, particularly in the face of setbacks. In the second place, we must be knowledgeable enough because knowledge is very often the threshold qualification for a success. More importantly, we should be blessed with good luck, for many people are unsuccessful in our society just because they are not the favored child of the Goddess of Luck. Massive Joblessness of College Graduates College students used to be guaranteed jobs upon graduation. But this national policy has become history. Today, young people have to look for jobs on their own and many of them fail to land a job in time. As a result, some people suggest that college students should establish a business of their own. Which is preferable, establishing a business of ones own or starting from the bottom in a company? In response to this question, many people would welcome the idea of college students establishing businesses of their own. In this way, they can apply what they have learned in college freely to practice. Besides, this can also alleviate the strain on the job market. Other people, however, reject this proposal. In their opinions, young people are short of both capital to start a business with and necessary social experience to avoid falling in the business traps in our society today. How should we deal with changes in life? As one philosopher once said, what never changes with our life is that our life is always changing. We may change jobs, our places o0f living and in our era, many of us may change their life partners. In other words, changes are hardly avoidable in our life. This being the case, how should we deal with changes? To cope with change easily and effectively, we should first of all learn to predict and this predictive power will prevent us from being swept of
