Paragraph 3 mainly tells us that _.A. who and what makes people easy to fraudB. all walks of life would be likely to fall for scamsC. the poorly educated may be easier to be cheatedD. government officials should be responsible for frauds23. Modic and Frank Stajanos researches find out that the victims _.A. often follow friends actionsB. also share good characteristicsC. are considered to be dangerousD. shouldnt have a trust in authorityBSometimes your expectations dont survive. But you have to make it through. After a lengthy visa application procedure, I left my father with our dog, jumped on a flight, and there I was in London. Since Europe is an aspiration in my country, I had imagined it as a place where things always worked perfectly. I was alone in dealing with all kinds of problems as they arose, that was alright and this is how I became my own special person during my Erasmus exchange. The accommodation I could afford was far from the city. To make things worse, I was new to many things, and definitely an outsider. But it wasnt an exception to carelessness, I found out. My dorm was in a silent neighborhood. Little did I know that those calm streets would be visited by loud fire trucks. And because of me!That morning, I closed the kitchen door after placing some bread in the toaster. I was still half asleep and looking for what to wear. For some reason, the automatic mechanism of the toaster to push the slices up didnt work. When I went back to the kitchen, it was full of thick white smoke. Coughing hard, I opened the windows, stepped outside the door for a breath, and then went in again to reach for the fire extinguisher. It was the first time I used one, and had to get out of the kitchen to be able to see how to unlock it. It was only then the fire alarm went off! I went in again and made sure I put off the fire.Nothing was like how I planned. A few times I hung out in the school cafeteria, but couldnt make friends. I went to discover the city, alone. Independence wasnt something to be ashamed of after all. I wish I had made friends with people, but it turned out that I had to learn I wasnt in need of others company to enjoy life. I tried to make the best of my time, thinking that being alone is a blessing too, just like being with friends is. My international experiences that followed definitely made me more social, but now I know that being alone is not a weakness, but a part of life to embrace. Just like our mistakes, carelessness or bad luck, I can say it was during my time in London that I learnt I was, despite everything, a strong and special person who can cope with(处理)anything that comes her way.24.The underlined words it wasnt an exception to carelessness probably refers to .A.I was careless to cause a fireB.I shouldnt be careless in a foreign countryC.I was supposed to handle hardships abroad on my ownD. the accommodation of exchange students is always out-of-the-way25.How did the author feel about his experience when living abroad by himself?A. What Made Me Become My Own Hero? B.My Study Experience in the UKC. Being Alone Is Definitely an Awful Thing D.An Unforgettable Experience of Putting Out a Fire in LondonCIf you frequently find yourself covered in mosquito bites while others escape, you can blame your genes (基因). British scientists have discovered evidence that some people are simply born to attract mosquitoes. In experiments they found that peoples body smell attracted the insects in different ways and this was strongly influenced by genetics. The team, led by scientists at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, found that pairs of identical twins who share 100 percent of their genes are equally attractive to mosquitoes. Non-identical twins, who only share about 50 percent of their genes, however, differ in the degree to which they attract mosquitoes. The results show that the feature has a similar link to genes as height and IQ. The findings build on previous work, which links body smell to the chances of being attacked by mosquitoes. The team also includes scientists from Nottingham University and the University of Florida. They think that some individuals produce a natural insect repellent (驱虫剂) that keeps them safe. Lead scientist Dr James Logan, from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, said, “By investigating the genetic mechanism (遗传机制) behind attractiveness to biting insects such as mosquitoes, we can move closer to using this knowledge for better ways of keeping us safe from bites and the diseases insects can spread through bites. If we understand the genetic basis for variation between individuals, it could be possible to develop ways to control mosquitoes better, and develop new ways to drive them away. In the future we may even be able to take a pill which will increase the production of natural repellents by the body and finally replace skin lotions (药液).” 28. The experiment involving twins suggests that _.A. mosquito bites may result from genesB. body smell differs from person to person C. body smell is to blame for mosquito bitesD. mosquitoes can be killed by genetic means 29. Its implied in Paragraph 4 that ones height and IQ _. A. affect each other greatly B. are both influenced by genesC. cant be explained by genetics D. have a lot to do with the environment30. Why are some people free from mosquito bites according to the text?A. They have taken some pills. B. They use certain skin lotions.C. Their body produces a special smell.D. Their skin contains natural repellents.31. Whats Dr James Logans tone like in the last paragraph?A. Concerned. B. Curious. C. Annoyed. D. Hopeful.DElectronic sensors built into paper could be used in a range of ways from information storage to touch screens and more.Electronic sensors built into cartons(纸盒)may make it easier to tell when its time to throw out rotten milk or orange juice. And thats just the start. At least thats the goal for researchers working on putting electronics into paper. Theyre trying to figure out how to combine the flexibility, low-cost and recyclability of paper with the information-carrying ability of electronics.Daniel Torbjork, a physics graduate student in Finland, has been working on the problem. Hes published a review of the field in the journal Advanced Materials.Much research has been focused in this area. While most electronic applications require patterned conducting structures, conductive paper could be used in applications such as energy storage devices, sensors, electric heaters and others, according to Torbjork.“You could even have some interactive functions in magazines,” Torbjork said, “You could put a simple game in a package. If you want a touch screen, press a button and then something happen. Sensors in paper could tell us when something has gone bad.”Additional applications, such as information storage and security paper, have been suggested for magnetic papers containing magnetite. In Massachusetts, researchers have figured out how to post a video of such a device put into a paper airplane.German researchers have also put electronic chips in paper bank notes to defend counter-feiters(造伪币者). Paper is a good material but printing electronics also requires low-cost manufacturing. As many US and European paper makers lose market share to cheaper paper from China, these big paper companies are looking for added value products. Thats where electronic paper devices could make a difference.“The major obstacles are papers large surface roughness and chemical impurities.” Torbjork says. But others in the field think that electronic sensors in paper are still far from the consumer marketplace.“I dont think its going to happen.” said Roy Horgan. “You need a conductive surface. It could be 10 years out. What we are looking for are solutions that you can commercialize today.”Solar Print is partnering with Italian automaker Fiat to develop a unique auto-glass with tiny photostatic cells(光电)that can capture electricity from the sun. In the meantime, using paper to conduct electricity is still a “blue-sky” project.“I would love to see someone prove me wrong, because that means that its actually happening.” Horgan said. “If someone comes up with conductive paper, then thats a very interesting technology.”32. Putting electronics into paper will _.A. cut the cost and impurity of paperB. depend on flexible conductive structureC. help consume rotten milk or orange juiceD. combine the advantages of paper and electronics33. Paragraphs 4 to 7 mainly talk about the _ of the conductive paper.A. practical use B. theories C. structures D. design process34. Some paper makers welcome the new technology probably because it will _.A. put an end to fake money B. make the paper smootherC. add more value to paper D. improve the printing technology35. From the passage, we know that Roy Horgan _.A. has a burning desire to make a great profitB. showed much interest in Solar Print industryC. is not confident about the conductive paperD. started a “blue-sky” project to study paper第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Are you a person that feels youve been gifted with creativity? Do you feel like you cant be creative at school sometimes? 36 Read the passage and you will get some ideas that can serve as your inspiration. Employ recycling into your arts and crafts activities. No matter what you are into, there are many ways to involve using objects and supplies that youd have otherwise thrown away. Save paper, bottles, cardboard and more. Be sure to add your projects and ideas online to share with others as well. Make friends with people who own or work at the local arts and crafts store. This can help you get valuable deep understanding of sales, styles and special offers. 39 Also you may probably meet others who are interested in the same crafts that you like. 40 A rainy day might seem like the perfect time to do arts and crafts indoors, either alone or with your friends. However, if there are steps like spray (喷洒) painting involved, those are usually better done outside. A. You may even be able to display your crafts. B.
