Attheendofeverysemester,studentsinmyuniversityarerequiredtofilloutaquestionnaireasareviewoftheprevioussemester.Thequestionsusuallycoverabroadrangeofcollegelife,fromcurriculumadjustmenttocanteenservice.Andalmosteverytime,thequestionnaireincludesoneessentialquestion,thatis:Asacollegestudent,whatareyourmajorchallenges?Andalmosteveryanswerincludestwoaspects:studyingandprofessional.Thesetwochallengeswillremainourpreoupationsaslongasweliveinsuchapetitiveworld. Aseriesofchallengesinourstudiesstartfromalmostthebeginningofourfreshmanyear.Wemaywonderwhetherwevechosentherightmajor.Wemaywonderiftheextracurricularactivitiesaddcreditstoourstudies.WemayworkourheadsofftogetagloriousA,becauseBisalreadymediocreandCisalmostunaeptable.Lateronwemaybepetingwithourhardworking,intelligentpeers,includingourbestfriendstogetintoanidealgraduateschool.Allofthesesoundsofamiliarandtheyhavesomehowmadeourcollegeeducationsogoal-obsessedthatwesometimesfailtofullyenjoyoureducationalexperience. Apartfromchallengesinlearning,therearealsoprofessionalchallenges.ThepetitiveworldtodayhasalsobroughtabouttheKnowledgeEconomy,whichrequirestheeffectiveuseofknowledgeforeconomicandsocialdevelopment,andalsorequiresskilledandmulti-orientedstudentswithamarketablevocationalsense.Therefore,sophisticatedcalculationsuponthevalueofauniversitydegreearebeingmade.Graduateemployabilitystatisticsarebeingscrutinized.Programslikeresumewritingandinterviewskillsareseenasamust.AgainasIvesaidabove,whenprofessionalconcerndominatesourcollegeeducation,wemaylosetheessenceofoureducationalexperience.
