So we may say that the different civilizations have influence on different ways of peoples lives, histories and cultural perspectives which give various meaning to one certain thing. So in the case of translation activities, especially idiom translation, we often meet the problem that how to deal with the culture image. And the appropriate ways may exactly convey the meaning from source language to target language. They respectively are :1.literary translation,2.make proper selection from the target language,3.abstractly management. Purpose and SignificanceAs J.C Catford says, translation is the act of replacing text material in the source language by an equivalent text material in the target material. So is the idiom translation .when coming to the standard of translation，we tend to think of Yan Fu who advocated for the first time the three words as translation criteria ,namely, “faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance .” when we do the idiom translation, we should also refer to the translation standard. The most important issue in this translation activity is to deal with the culture image. when I meet such issue of idiom translation ,especially when there is a need of dealing with the culture image ,I feel terrible. And I believe that many students get the similar problem like me. So, I would like to do something to satisfy myself, and in other aspects I want to do something new as much as possible. In general, I have summarized 3 ways to deal with it. （1）The first way is to translate literarily .we have said that different regions own the different cultures, but in humans consciousness , there also lie some common ground. For example when translate the idiom“赴汤蹈火”，we may just try this” go through fire and water”. It is literary translate, no image replaced or change ,and in this case of translation, the original favor is perfectly saved. （2）Second is to make proper selection from the target language which could convey the similar meaning to readers or express it perfectly in target language. such as “爱屋及乌”to “love me love my dog.（3） And last is abstractly management .such as“纸上谈兵”to “be an armchair strategist”.Situation of study:When it comes to the idioms translation, there is abundant material we can refer to. From the relevant work, I can learn a lot about the idioms translation ,and obviously, they, those writers did much effort in this field. As far as I know , most of those are about the general ways of idioms translation. So I would like to do a little research about the specific issue of culture image.Outline . Introduction .
