2 in connection with 18 para graph 2 sentence 1 21 paragraph 2 sen tence 1 70 paragraph 2 number 1 of the law on Higher Education in Brandenburg Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz BbgHG of 18th December 2008 GVBl I 08 No 17 p 318 in the valid form re vised by law of 26th October 2010 GVBl I 10 No 35 the Brandenburg University of Technology in Cottbus BTU sets itself the following statute Model Curriculum ERM Master s Programme ERM 6 Preamble 1Regarding the nature of its Bachelor s and Master s programmes the BTU has come to an agreement on universally ob ligatory general regulations concerning the regulation of studies and examinations 2They are components of every regulation and are complemented by subject related regulations which contain and regulate the specifications of the individual pro gramme 3The agreement on procedures that apply to the whole university in organ izing and structuring modular programmes as well as in the implementation and man agement of performance verifications that accompany the studies is meant to achieve transparency on one hand and to minimise the administrative effort on the other 4Furthermore this strives to define and document the duties and rights of all involved in teaching and studying which set the framework for successful and fruit ful studies 5The responsible and dedicat ed development of the content of a pro gramme by students and faculty alike will be supported by this formal framework 6The development of the general regula tions followed a university wide discussion 7Students faculty and faculty supportive staff work together on the implementation and continuing development of the regula tion 8All involved are responsible for add ing their experiences of the application to the discussion on continuing development and thereby contribute to a continuous improvement of quality I General Regulations All general regulations of the General Ex amination and Study Regulations for Bachelor s programmes RahmenO Ma in its effective version are valid 1 to 27 II Subject related Regulations 28 Scope of Validity 1These subject related regulations regu late procedure and structure of the Mas ter s programme Environmental and Re source Management ERM for the stu ENGLISH TRANSLATION NOT BINDING 2 dents 2They are only valid in conjunction with the general regulations in Section I 29 Goal of the Programme 1 1The Master s programme is more practice orientated 2It consecutively fol lows the Bachelor s programme Environ mental and Resource Management of fered by the BTU and is beyond that an adequate further qualification for gradu ates that successfully completed a related Bachelor s programme 3The successful completion of the Master s programme qualifies in principle for the conferral of a doctorate or for the admission to a PhD programme 2 1The Master s programme is committed to the aim of internationality and interdisci plinarity 2The internationality derives from teaching in English 32 the recognition of semesters abroad 33 as well as from the range of module subject matters 3The interdisciplinarity is to be recognised by the connection between the professional fields natural sciences technology socio economy and management 3 1The programme aims at broadening and deepening the expertise and leader ship competencies in the field of integra tive environmental and resource protec tion 2Graduates are going to be enabled to evaluate and administer technological economical and infrastructural processes under the objective of a sustainable pro duction planning and material flow man agement 3In addition to extending the expertise one can focus on the acquire ment of planning abilities 4This comprises the independent analysis and handling of professional topics as well as the definition and outline of assignments in order to im plement applicatory solutions also in teamwork 5Of avail for that are in particu lar the assignments and the Master thesis with their respective scientific professional and organisational requirements 4 In addition to the professional knowledge the students shall expand their skills in foreign languages interculturalism and information acquisition and communi cation as well as their capacity for team work and individual problem solving 30 Graduation and Degree On successful completion of the Master s programme ERM the academic grade Master of Science M Sc is awarded 31 Further Admission Require ments Amending 4 the following further access requirements are to be complied with Linguistical requirements 1Applicants must have such a com mand of the English language as to be able to follow the courses without re strictions 2The command of the lan guage is to be verified by adequate tests TOEFL minimum of 550 points or 213 points computer based respec tively IELTS minimum 6 0 Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency or an equiva lent 3Sentence 2 does not apply to applicants from countries with English as an official language Professional requirements 1Verification of a first professional qualification degree with a study standard period time of at least six semesters Bachelor s level whose teaching contents impart basic knowledge in natural sciences and mathematics environmental technol ogy engineering and socio economy 2The criterion for the recognition of the professional requirements is the con tent of the ERM Bachelor s degree programme modules 3The profes sional requirements are examined by the head of study programme 32 Structure and Form of the Programme 1 1The Master s programme ERM has a standard time do degree of 2 years with a total amount of 120 credit points and com prises the following mandatory modules which have to be passed by examination A study project measuring 12 credit points The module Introduction to Environ mental and Resource Management II measuring 6 credit points ENGLISH TRANSLATION NOT BINDING 3 Compulsory elective modules of An nex 1b measuring 72 credit points passed by examination the Master thesis including colloquium measuring 30 credit points 2 1Students are strongly advised to place emphasis on certain topics in their individ ual course scheme especially with regard to an adequate preparation of the Master thesis 2In this process they are assisted by their mentor see 34 3 Teaching and examination language is English 4 The study programme begins only in winter semester 33 Semester Abroad 1 1Semesters abroad are possible 2Performance verifications are recognised on a case to case basis with up to 30 cred it points 2 1For the recognition of both external performance verifications as well as the complete semester abroad both verified by the examination board the following requirements are to be complied with Approval of the course scheme in ad vance in the form of a Learning Agreement by the examination board Verification of regular studies at the partner university or the university of choice by the student by way of sub mitting an official certificate Transcript of Records within six months after having completed the semester abroad 2Modifications of the course scheme need to be recognised by the examination board 3The recognition can be denied in case of non notified divergences between the Learning Agreement and the Tran script of Records 3 Special regulations apply to joint or double degrees with partner universities 34 Mentoring and Curriculum 1 1The student is assigned to a mentor at the beginning of the programme in order to schedule the individual course scheme cp 8 of the General Regulations for Master s Programmes 2By the end of the first semester the students has to submit an individual course scheme confirmed by the mentor which shows the selection of the compulsory elective modules pursuant to Annex 1a if so complementary modules as well as the individually chosen exami nation dates 3The mentor is authorised to reject a submitted course scheme or to impose revisionary conditions especially with regards to an adequate preparation of the master thesis 4The examination board has to agree upon a replacement of the mentor as well as to modifications of an approved course scheme 2 1A tutor system is at disposal for uni versity entrants in order to provide coun selling related to organisational or general matters 2The ERM coordination can be consulted in matters of general organisa tional concern especially when they are related to the organisation and assistance of a semester abroad 35 Grade Improvement 1 1One exam in a mandatory or compul sive elective modules which has been passed within the regular study time can be repeated once within a year for the purpose of grade improvement 13 par agraph 2 to 5 2If a grade improvement cannot be achieved the grade obtained in the first attempt remains valid 2 The Master thesis and the study project are excluded from grade improvement 36 Examination Board Competent examination board is the ex amination board which was appointed by the Faculty 4 for study programmes held in English 37 Requirements for Exam Reg istration Deadlines 1 1To the Master thesis can only to be admitted who successfully completed achieved an overall minimum amount of 78 credit points 2This performed work includes the successfully passed module ENGLISH TRANSLATION NOT BINDING 4 Introduction to Environmental and Re source Management II as well as the study project 2 The Master thesis is to be written within six months generally in the fourth semes ter 38 Grading of the Master thesis The grade of the Master thesis results from the thesis which accounts for 75 per cent and its colloquium which accounts for 25 percent 39 Regulations on Complemen tary Modules 1 Up to five compulsory elective modules 30 credit points can be replaced by com plementary modules in terms of 22 2 1As complementary modules can be recognised language classes excursions offers of guest lecturers and guest profes sors as well as modules from other BTU study programmes 2Modules from PhD programmes and Graduate Schools can not be recognised as complementary modules 3Language classes cannot be taken as replacement of compulsory elec tive modules in terms of 22 3 Complementary modules at the BTU are applied for at and recognised by ex amination board via the ERM head of Master s programme ERM 4 Complementary modules do not nec essarily need to comprise 6 credit points and can be offered in the respective na tional language 5 All classes taken during the semesters abroad are within the restrictions of 33 paragraph 1 regarded as complementary modules 6 1Grades of complementary modules which have not been taken at the BTU are not taken into account for the overall grade 2On the certificate Transcript of Records they are displayed separately 40 Transitional Regulations Validation Invalidation 1 This regulation becomes effective to the winter semester 2011 2012 latest on the day of publication 2 1Students who are already registered when this regulation is coming into effect will perform their studies based on the Examination and Study Regulation of 15th May 2005 ABl 07 2006 2The right to respective course and examination offer ings expires within two years after this regulation came into force 3 The Examination and Study Regulation of 15th May 2005 ABl 07 2006 in
