First, lets focus on the two English texts. The former one is the original material from America, and the latter one is a version from the Chinese introduction. As seen from the two English materials, we can find that there are mainly two differences:1. They have their own emphases in content. The Citibank makes its introduction focusing on the banking and financial services, Branch Network and some specific products. However, in the introduction of the Bank of China, a large proportion of the textural space is occupied by its historical development and operation principle presentation. Therefore, we can have a conclusion that the introduction of the foreign enterprise pays an equal attention to the Calling Function and the Information Function, while the Chinese enterprise has an introduction focusing on the Information Function. In this connection, I think the foreign one should be a better one, because it gives the key messages to attract the readers, and the Chinese one has too much unnecessary information to magnify its success.2. They are distinct from each other in discourse characteristics. The most obvious distinction is that the foreign introduction has a shorter length than the Chinese one. It indicates that the foreign one is succinct and clear, and the Chinese one is more complex. The Citibank uses some simple and understandable nouns and verbs to give important informations, like a wide array of banking, financial services, specific products, deliver, offer and include. However, the Bank of China uses more complicated and vague adjunct words. For instance, prudent management, progressive reforms, significant achievements, prudent operations and customer-centric business concepts. In conclusion, compared with the Chinese one, the introduction of a foreign enterprise always uses more simple and perspicuous. We Chinese should pay more attention to the practical content and reduce some information, which wont be needed very much. However, compared with the introduction in Chinese, the English introduction of the Bank of China has already improved. The most obvious improvement should be the translation of the four-character phrases and simplified translation. In Chinese, the four-character phrases have rhythms, making the sentences full of momentum. In English, they are replaced by some easy and ordinary phrases, like the examples above. But the meaning can still been expresses clearly. Reading the second example carefully, we can find 树立了卓越的品牌形象 has been omitted when it is translated into English.
