AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between the regular diet and the psychological health among college students. Diet and psychology are closely related. They both affect each other. Health psychologists in U.K recently found that through plenty of researches. Obviously, the sweet taste always goes with happiness, bitterness often means someone in a bad mood. It cant be denied that many tastes are corresponded with emotions. So a good diet leads to a vigorous lifeHealth psychologists seek to identify the behaviors and experiences that promote health, lead to illness, influence the effectiveness of health care, and recommend improvements to health policy in their light. An irregular diet may also contribute to the formation of diseases. So I did the research to find the inner connection between them, hoping to help college students build up their psychological health.Key words: Diet Psychological Health College students2. IntroductionNowadays, there are many psychological problems among college students. Depression, jealousy or prejudice is commonly seen in university and I do believe this phenomenon has some connections with the irregular diet.College students often have reasons for their irregular diet, such as losing weight, staying up late or being busy. But these are not excuses for their ignorance of the importance of a regular diet.College students do not generally recognize the inner connections between the regular diet and the psychological health. Moreover, people always believe that health should be separated by the psychological part and the physical part, as far as I am concerned, body health and psychological health cannot be divided. We must keep balance on them.3. MethodOur group did research on 150 students. We each designed some questions for the part we focus on. For me, these questions are about the attitude towards regular breakfast, students perspectives to breakfast, and the damage of an irregular diet.We deliver forms to students from several major, both male and female, asking some public information. My forms (each one is in charge of 25 forms) are delivered to the Automation major and the Software major. The first question of mine is whether you have breakfast or not. The second is asking whether your friends are agreed to have breakfast. The two questions are designed to check students attitude towards a healthy diet.Next four questions are set to find out the damage that caused by an irregular diet. After researching, the four key factors: energy, time, emotion and ability will show they are affected or not.4. Data Analysis4.1 The attitude towards a regular diet4.1.1 IntroductionWhen it comes to a regular diet, breakfast certainly should be an important part. It is often omitted by those who dont have a regular diet, but it does benefit us a lot. So I used students having breakfast as an example and designed some questions.4.1.2 Data (Charts and Explanations)When students were asked the question: “Whats your opinion about having breakfast everyday?” They acted differently when they were asked the same question about students surrounded them.We can see 75% students are totally agreed while 23% are very agreed. But there are still 2% somehow holding their opinions.Next we will see if college students having a good environment of a regular diet. Following are their thoughts. These results come from the question:”Do you think there are some people around you who dont have breakfast.”70% students have a good surrounding eating breakfast everyday while 30% think there are still few people dont have breakfast.4.1.3 AnalysisFrom these statistics we can see that students are pretty aware of the importance of having breakfast. But they fail to restrain themselves to a regular diet. People know each other by the behaviors. So thats why the opposite views arise when it comes to the perspectives towards others.4.2 The effect of an irregular diet4.2.1 IntroductionNow we will see the consciousness of college students to the damage of an irregular diet. Everyone did do something bad for his health once or twice and he must be regretful about that. So this may help me to find out the psychological effectThis chart concludes the four factors that students think will affect their life.4.2.2 Data (Charts and Explanations)Question (in sequence)1. Will you feel upset if you cant attend class for your weak body? (Emotion)2. Do you feel inefficient when you omit one meal? (Ability)3. When staying up late, will you eat something? If so, will you have breakfast next day? (Time)4. Will you feel weak when omit one meal? (Energy)4.1.3 AnalysisIt turns out irregular diet does harm a lot. But it is worth to pay attention to that girls act more emotional than boys and the effects are also clearer than boys. Through the statistics, we see that the level rises from emotion to energy. This result thoroughly shows how an irregular diet affects our body, emotion and psychological health. We can also find that an irregular diet can affect a students relationships, self-esteem, stress level, happiness and belief system. Many of these issues seem to be financial or social rather than psychological, but they have a direct impact on psychological wellbeing. When these issues go down, they will get upset sooner or later. So we must consider it seriously.5. Conclusions5.1 Brief SummaryWe can see that the college students are very aware of having a healthy diet. And they all know something about the damage of an irregular diet. However, this consciousness is not deep enough. There always are students who dont care about it. So we must prevent it before its becoming worse.5.2 Propositions5.2.1 Education is significantUniversity should advocate a regular diet, taking measures such as inviting an expert to give a lecture, designing some public posters and so on. A regular diet definitely benefits each of us.5.2.2 Keep in a good moodThere is some evidence that certain negative mental states lead people to an irregular diet. People addict to alcohol or eat a lot when they are in depression and anxiety. Negative emotional states may indirectly cause diseases. So we must get rid of the negative thoughts and let in more sunshine to our heart.5.2.3 Make a strict time scheduleSome college students are lack of self-control. Sometimes they lose control of themselves. If you are the very one who goes with your appetite, try to make yourself a strict time schedule to regulate your daily life.6.
