Todays homework: Have a discussion about Exercise 3 on Page 68 and prepare for the next period.Step The Design of the Writing on the BlackboardUnit 8 Learning a foreign languageThe second periodCharacteristics of successful students1.They plan and evaluate their learning, so they gain confidence and are able to relax and enjoy the learning.2.With greater control and a stronger sense of achievement, active learners are able to acquire new skills faster and put what they know to better use.3.They do better in areas such as reading comprehension, vocabulary learning, writing and speaking.4.They are more willing to take risks and to plan themselves in new learning situations.Useful words and expressionsacquire, instruct, secure, adopt, experiment with, make sense of, in other words, take risks.Record after teaching:课例分析：本单元的中心话题是“学习外语”，内容涉及外语学习的困难、到外国学习、讨论学习策略、谈论学习习惯与学习的技能技巧、谈论态度与动机、提出建议，改进学习方法的建议等。语言知识和语言技能都是依据“学习外语”这一中心话题来设计的。本节课分为三个部分：读前(Pre-reading)、阅读(Reading)和读后(Post-reading)。读前(Pre-reading)部分提出七个问题，都与外语学习有关。这些问题是：我们学习外语面临的困难是什么，我们是怎样学习母语的，学习外语与我们学习母语有什么不同，成功的语言学习者有什么特点，我们从中可以得到哪些启示和帮助，我们怎样才能增强自信心，我们怎样才能学得快一些好一些。学生对这些问题并不陌生，但不一定都会主动去系统认真的思考。教师可以利用这个机会启发他们去思考，以促进他们学习方法的优化，提高其自主学习的能力。“读前”部分还针对这七个问题设计了一份问题概要，让学生完成填空。本部分的内容都是在“阅读”部分要进一步阐明的，让学生先行考虑做好准备，使他们提高阅读的自主性。阅读(Reading)部分是一篇说明文，话题是“学习外语 需要两倍的努力吗？”全文主要讲了以下内容：我们怎样学习母语，对此，语言学家持有不同的观点；学习外语不同于学习母语，分析外语学习成功者的经验，说明外语学习并不那么难。本篇阅读材料利用了一些基本的语言学理论向学生阐述外语学习中经常会遇到的一些问题，引导他们去思考，启发他们从自己数年来学习外语的过程中找出某些规律性的东西，以利于今后的学习提高。读后(Post-reading)部分首先列出三个问题，要学生返校儿童学会母语的年龄、不同人群学习母语能力的差异、学习母语与学习外语有哪些不同。这些都是课文中前三段所讨论的内容。练习2要学生判断所给的7条陈述是属于母语学习还是外语学习，这个涉及课文前三段的一些细节。练习3给出12个单词，要求按其相关性分类，这些词与课文内容密切相关。练习4让学生两人一组或分组讨论，分析成功的学习者特点，要学生尽量列出良好的学习习惯和技能。这个练习与课文的后三段内容密切相关。练习5要求学生写出课文的段落大意和文章的目的。总之，“读后”部分所设计的练习充分考虑了本篇说明文的特点，要求学生在理解的基础上学会概括与归纳。课后反思本部分的内容是一篇说明文，是对“外语学习究竟难不难”提出看法并说明理由，设法使读者信服，达到启发
