May cause transient corneal injury.Skin:Causes skin irritation. Substance is rapidly absorbed through the skin. Causes symptoms similar to those of inhalation. May be harmful if absorbed through the skin.Ingestion:May cause gastrointestinal irritation with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. May be harmful if swallowed.Inhalation:Inhalation of high concentrations may cause central nervous system effects characterized by nausea, headache, dizziness, unconsciousness and coma. May cause respiratory tract irritation. May be harmful if inhaled.Chronic:May cause liver and kidney damage. Chronic exposure may cause blood effects. Chronic exposure may cause effects similar to those of acute exposure.Section 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES Eyes: In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical aid immediately.Skin:In case of contact, flush skin with plenty of water. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical aid if irritation develops and persists. Wash clothing before reuse.Ingestion:If swallowed, do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid.Inhalation:If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid.Notes to Physician:Section 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES General Information:As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. Use water spray to keep fire-exposed containers cool. Combustible liquid and vapor. Vapors are heavier than air and may travel to a source of ignition and flash back. Vapors can spread along the ground and collect in low or confined areas.Extinguishing Media:Water may be ineffective. Do NOT use straight streams of water. For small fires, use dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or water spray. For large fires, use water spray, fog or regular foam.Section 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section 8.Spills/Leaks:Absorb spill with inert material (e.g. vermiculite, sand or earth), then place in suitable container. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and ditches which lead to waterways. Clean up spills immediately, observing precautions in the Protective Equipment section. Remove all sources of ignition. Use a spark-proof tool. Provide ventilation.Section 7 - HANDLING and STORAGE Handling:Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Use with adequate ventilation. Ground and bond containers when transferring material. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Empty containers retain product residue, (liquid and/or vapor), and can be dangerous. Do not pressurize, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, grind, or expose empty containers to heat, sparks or open flames. Keep away from heat and flame. Avoid breathing vapor or mist.Storage:Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame. Keep away from sources of ignition. Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Containers should be dated when opened and tested periodically for the presence of peroxides. Should crystals form in a peroxidizable liquid, peroxidation may have occurred and the product should be considered extremely dangerous. In this instance, the container should only be opened remotely by professionals. All peroxidizable substances should be stored away from heat and light and be protected from ignition sources.Section 8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS, PERSONAL PROTECTION Engineering Controls:Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use adequate general or local exhaust ventilation to keep airborne concentrations below the permissible exposure limits.Personal Protective Equipment Eyes: Wear chemical goggles.Skin:Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin exposure.Clothing:Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin exposure.Respirators:Follow the OSHA respirator regulations found in 29 CFR 1910.134 or European Standard EN 149. Always use a NIOSH or European Standard EN 149 approved respirator when necessary.Section 9 - PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES Physical State: LiquidColor: colorlessOdor: mild ether-like odorpH: Not available.Vapor Pressure: 0.88 mm Hg 25 deg CViscosity: 2.83 cS 25 deg CBoiling Point: 171 deg CFreezing/Melting Point: -70 deg CAutoignition Temperature: 238 deg C ( 460.40 deg F)Flash Point: 62 deg C ( 143.60 deg F)Explosion Limits, lower: 1.1% 93CExplosion Limits, upper: 12.7% 135CDecomposition Temperature:Solubility in water: Soluble.Specific Gravity/Density: 0.90Molecular Formula: C6H14O2Molecular Weight: 118.18Section 10 - STABILITY AND REACTIVITY Chemical Stability:Under normal storage conditions, peroxidizable compounds can form and accumulate peroxides which may explode when subjected to heat or shock. This material is most hazardous when peroxide levels are concentrated by distillation or evaporation.Conditions to Avoid:Ignition sources, excess heat.Incompatibilities with Other Materials:Strong oxidizing agents, strong bases.Hazardous Decomposition Products:Carbon monoxide, irritating and toxic fumes and gases, carbon dioxide.Hazardous Polymerization: Will not occur.Section 11 - TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION RTECS#:CAS# 111-76-2: KJ8575000 LD50/LC50:CAS# 111-76-2: Dermal, guinea pig: LD50 = 230 uL/kg; Draize test, rabbit, eye: 100 mg Severe; Draize test, rabbit, eye: 100 mg/24H Moderate; Inhalation, mouse: LC50 = 700 ppm/7H; Inhalation, rat: LC50 = 450 ppm/4H; Oral, mouse: LD50 = 1230 mg/kg; Oral, rabbit: LD50 = 300 mg/kg; Oral, rat: LD50 = 470 mg/kg; Skin, rabbit: LD50 = 220 mg/kg.Carcinogenicity:2-Butoxyethanol - Not listed by ACGIH, IARC, NIOSH, NTP, or OSHA.Other:See actual entry in RTECS for complete information.Section 12 - ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION Ecotoxicity:24-Hr.
