Only one animal has thatkindly face and those fluffy blackhind legs. 2Wild giant pandas are not likeblack bears. Giant pandas eatbamboo. Black bears do not. Pandasdo not hibernate or walk on theirhind legs like black bears do.3Wild giant pandas live high inthe forests of China. About 1,000of them live in the wild in China.4Wild giant pandas in Chinaspend ten or more hours every dayfinding food. Wild pandas eat onekind of foodbamboo.5Wild giant pandas must eat morethan fifty pounds of bamboo in aday. No wonder the giant pandaspends so much time looking forfood!6Each wild giant panda needslots of land to find that muchbamboo. Maybe that is why theydont like other pandas around. 7Once wild pandas find bamboo,they grind it with their big teeth.Giant pandas eat almost every part of the bamboo. Very little is left behind.8When giant pandas are born,they are tiny. A grown giant pandacan weigh 220 pounds, but anewborn panda weighs only a few ounces!9A wild giant panda mother isvery kind. She keeps her tiny infantin a special pouch during the firstfew months. 10When a young panda is abouteight months old, both mother andchild know the little panda is readyto leave the pouch. The young pandalooks for its own bamboo to eat. 11Thousands of years ago, manyChinese people thought that wildgiant pandas were special. Eventhen, pandas were very rare. Peoplein China thought that pandasbrought good luck. 12Today many people are tryingto protect giant pandas in the wildin China. 13The people of China give giantpandas to other countries as a signof friendship. There are giantpandas in zoos all over the world. 14People who see giant pandas inzoos love these animals from China.People like to see giant pandas asmuch as lions and tigers.15People who see the giant pandain the zoo may want to help savepandas in the wild.
