ERDF, a 100%-owned subsidiary of EDF, manages the public electricity distribution network across 95% of metropolitan France. ERDF, a wholly owned subsidiary of EDF, manages the public electricity distribution network for 95% of continental France. Every day, its 35,000 employees oversee the operation, maintenance and development of a nearly 1.3 million km network.Public services duties ERDF manages 95% of the electricity distribution network in continental France. This network belongs to local authorities (French municipalities or groups of municipalities), who subcontract to ERDF as an operator through a public service delegation. ERDF thus has 2 major public service duties. Service continuity and quality: managing nearly 1.3 million km of electric lines, ERDF is responsible for continuous public electricity service. To fulfil this role, the company operates, maintains and develops the network. ERDF also invests in modernising and securing the network, particularly against extreme weather conditions. Non-discriminatory access to the distribution network: in compliance with regulations, ERDF ensures that users have transparent, objective and non-discriminatory access to the network. The company also guarantees the confidentiality of commercially sensitive information handled, having developed a code of good practice for this specific purpose. Adherence to this code is examined in an annual report submitted to the Commission de Rgulation de lEnergie, Frances regulatory authority on energy. ERDF, in the heart of the open electricity ERDF contributes to the smooth operation of the electricity market by pursuing a twofold objective of quality and neutrality. The quality of ERDFs electricity supply is among the highest in Europe. To preserve this level of service, ERDF maintains and develops the network. The company also innovates to meet the needs of customers, electricity producers and electricity suppliers, particularly in the areas of information systems and metering. ERDF contributes to the smooth operation of the open electricity market by guaranteeing non-discrimination against other parties in the network. Today ERDF wants to share its skills and experience with distributors abroad. The company has founded ERDF I, an international subsidiary that offers services including consultancy, audit, technical assistance, technical studies, training, engineering, etc.1,3 km of electrical network managed 34 million customers 36,110 employees 12.1 billion in revenue in 2010 11 million operations per yearServices ERDF handles many important daily operations, such as connection to the grid, commissioning, repair, and changing suppliers. As manager of the public electricity distribution network, ERDF performs many operations every year. These totalled over 9 million in 2008. The nature of services depends on whether the customer is a consumer, electricity supplier or electricity producer. Services for consumers and suppliers At the request of its customers or suppliers, ERDF provides a certain number of services. Connection. ERDF handles the physical connection of a facility or site to the distribution network under technical and financial conditions set by regulations and contracts. The connection service includes: extension of the grid, if needed, building of the connection line for the facility. Commissioning. After completing a connection project, ERDF ensures commissioning of the facilitys power installations at the request of the electricity supplier chosen by the customer. Repair. ERDF handles repairs on the network at all times. A dedicated hotline is available to customers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Meter reading . ERDF handles meter readings as well as the inspection, maintenance and replacement of meter materials.Change of supplier . Every customer is free to choose their electricity supplier. The process is handled by the new supplier, who then contacts ERDF.Contract termination. ERDF ceases the provision of electricity to customers who terminate their contracts, whether for a change of residence or at the request of the electricity supplier. Additional services. ERDF performs additional services, such as changing meter options due to contract changes (change in power.), verifying meter readings and protective equipment, or moving materials and installations. Services intended for electricity producers ERDF provides connection and meter reading services for energy producers.Corporate governance ERDF, a wholly owned subsidiary of EDF, is a French company organised as a public limited company with a board of directors and a supervisory board. The board of directors manages the company, its performance and its risks. The supervisory board monitors economic performance. This governance structure aims at strengthening the efficiency and independence of the companys management.Local organisation ERDF shares a common service with Gaz rseau Distribution France (GrDF), employing nearly 45,700 individuals. Among other tasks, this service includes the construction of projects, engineering, operation and maintenance of the electricity network, as well as meter reading operations. Operational organisation is handled by 8 local divisions. On the field, 88 local directors are the primary contacts for elected officials and licensing authorities This pooled organisation keeps the company anchored across all of France and gives it the means necessary for carrying out its public service duties related to the public distribution of electricity.ERDF-i, international activities ERDF makes its know-how available worldwide via its ERDF-isubsidiary. ERDF-i allows access to ERDF expertise anduses its resources and those of the EDF Group to meet its clients requirements.Win-win partnerships consulting performing technical analyses, consulting, and, upon request, profit-sharing via a system of bonuses and penalties, lease type delegated management handling of operation and routine maintenance costs, for a fee set in advance in the contract, concession type delegated management making necessary investment (network, installations) operating the network, for a fee charged to the user via a revisable fee set out in the concession contract, Equity stake acquisition of an interest in the company resulting in privileged partner status. Partnership with the Russian distributor MRSK A partnership agreement was concluded in 2010 with the Russian electricity distributor MRSK. The goals: - work together to improve the network infrastructures energy efficiency, - examine the terms of ERDF involvement in the management and renovation of the Russian electricity networks. Diversified and customized services Consulting, auditing, analyses, engineering, training, technical assistance, etc.: ERDF-i offers a large range of services. organisation shared experiences as distributor, consulting and auditing distribution companies, technical policies support in developing policies and organisation methods for activities such as meter reading and reducing non-technical losses, maintenance, network connection, etc., network analysis analysis upon request in order to optimise network development or technical and economic performance, engineering project management for building substations, extending or renovating networks, automation or creation of switching centres, development of smart metering systems support in the design and deployment of remote metering systems, real index invoicing and improved control of energy demand, personnel training auditing, development of training plans, training initiatives, participation in ERDF internships and immersion in operational units, livewire work (HTA or BT networks): feasibility studies, support in contracting, training, technical support and assistance, technical assistance general assistance agreements for distribution companies (examples: hotline support, staff special assignments).Financial results 2010 was marked by a net profit of 121 billion, with turnover up nearly 7.1%. The company is continuing to increase its investments (+10.7%) and develop its skill set
