Memorandum for theSino-US Cool Roof Project SymposiumOn October 15, 2010, the Sino-US Cool Roof Project Symposium was held in Shenzhen city. Chinas MOHURD and Americas USDOE and related managing personnel and people from the scientific research institutions of both parties participated this conference (attached please see the name list). The both sides exchanged their ideas regarding the roof energy-saving technology represented by hot-reflection roof and its application in both countries. They also deeply discussed the existing problems and research directions and reached consensus about bilateral cooperation and related work in future.Firstly, the director of RISN of MOHURD, CHEN Guoyi, and the charger of Department of Architectural Energy-Saving Technologies of USDOE, Mr. Marc LaFrance, spoke highly of the successful cooperation between these two countries on the project of “Energy-Saving Performance Labeling of Architectural Doors and Windows”. They expressed their confidence in the success of this cool roof project and also expressed their wishes to further strengthen their bilateral cooperation and enhance the efficiency.The American experts especially introduced the evaluation procedures of American Cool Roof Rating Commission, project progress and aging experiment, etc. Currently, America has 7 third-party laboratories conducting testing, but all these laboratories need to be certified by CRRC. So far, there are over 2000 products of over 200 enterprises in America that have got the label of cool roof.Chinese experts thought the so-called “cool roof” should not only refer to hot-reflection roof, but it should also include other forms, such as green roof, reversed roof and overhead roof. They discussed the energy-saving requirements of roof, types of the suitable architectures, settlement of related performance index and the current standards, etc. Lastly, director Chen Guoyi made a summary and also a planning for the future work, which received the recognition and appraisal of all participants. He said that the focus should be research on the degree of influences exerted by cool roof system on global climate, so that we can search for policy support of governmental departments, which will be the basis of proceeding this project smoothly. Besides, all analysis and research should be conducted with an objective attitude without betraying the truth.
