As contrasting Tom Sawyer with Huckleberry Finn, Wang Lin (Journal of Foshan University, 1994, 12(3) said, “the finding I have made in my study of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn are elaborated in the previous pages tend to establish the idea that these two books are not merely childrens stories but a condensed panorama of the American society in 19th century”. However, about Tom Sawyer, some people chose to explore the enchantment that hides in book. Chen Tingting (Journal of Changsha Social Work College, 2008, 15(4) made a conclusion that with unbending convictions, the generation can overcome any difficulties by reading this book. Some researchers make their focus on the hero, Tom Sawyer. Li Changxia (Journal of Xinxiang University, 2009, 23(5) said, “Tom was clever, brave and also a dreamer. He was the symbol of thousands of American at Twains time. American people loved Tom from generation to generation, because Tom Sawyer was similar to American characters.”This essay focuses on the use of Local Colorism in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. It is a new view which differs from the ideas mentioned before. I will elaborate this point in three respects: firstly, the local setting of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Secondly, language uses in the novel. Thirdly, analyzing the characteristics of Tom. This thesis will make a comprehensive study to the local colorism in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.II. Expected ResultsThe theoretical reasons for this study are to offer an insight into the local colorism in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, although, many researchers think that the local colorism is not obvious in this book.
