But generally speaking, lying serves as a tool of deceiving and plotting most of the time. In modern economy, lying would directly cause the asymmetric information between buyers and sellers. The consequence would be the decreasing of one sides welfare in transaction, followed by the loss of general societal welfare. As a result, lying is denounced morally in every society. For the same reason, cheating is also discouraged. These negative actions have one characteristic in common that they all eventually lead to the loss of societal welfare.
