Varying speaking rate Group work Divide the whole class into groups of 4-5 students, talk on one of the following suggested topics and choose one speaker for the presentation. Discuss the following topic: How to Improve Ones Speaking Skills in Public Personal Experience I Have Had; Opinions I Feel Strongly About; Fears /Concerns I Have; Activities I Am Good At. Practice Introduce your partner Talk with your partner and find as much information as possible about him/her. Prepare a 1-2 minute speech of introduction about your partner. Deliver the speech to the whole class, pay attention to your posture, facial expression, eye contact, and volume of the voice. Unit 2 Making Impromptu Speeches Warming-up Discuss on the following topics: 1. A Day I Will Always Remenber 2. An Embarrassing Moment 3.Higher Education Reform in China Listening 1. The class is dividedinto groups of 5-6 students. 2. Each member of the group selects a topic, and spends a few minutes preparing his/her speech. 3. The rest of the class make some comments and give some suggestions on the wording of the speeches. Unit 9 Oral PracticeSpeech contest Procedure: 1. Divide the class into 2 groups, and each group selects 4-5 speakers for the contest. 2. Each speaker delivers a 4-minute prepare speech followed by a question-and-answer session. Part two Special Types of Speeches Unit 10 Welcomes and Introduction The Speech of Welcome: 1. Ask students to read the sample speech of welcome. 2. Discuss in pairs how to make good speech of welcome. 3. Practice: Make a speech to welcome the new comers in the university. Make a speech to meet the visitors in the airport/railway station/hotel The Speech of Introduction: 1. Ask students to read the sample speech of introduction. 2. Discuss in pairs how to make good speech of introduction. 3. Practice: Choose someone you know or admire, such as a friend, professor, or well-known personality, prepare and introduction and present it to your group members. Unit 11 Presentation and Acceptance The Presentation Speech: 1. Ask students to read the sample presentation speech. 2. Discuss in pairs how to make good presentation speech. 3. Practice: make a speech to honor an outstanding professor or award the scholarships to deserving students in the university. The Acceptance Speech: 1. Ask students to read the sample speech of acceptance. 2. Discuss in pairs how t
