Face to Face with Guns (Title)face to face (with): 1) close to and looking at sb. or sth. 面对面的/地Ive never met her face to face. Weve only talked on the phone.我从来没有当面见过她。我们只在电话中交谈过。 2) no escape from sth. and having to deal with it 面临着;面对着He was brought face to face with the truth about his daughters disappearance.他不得不面对女儿失踪的事实。2. pull into: move to one side and stop (车)停靠,驶向(一旁) (Para.1) The train pulled into station right on time. 这列火车正点到站。3. Everything he said during our encounter was repeated; instinctively, I did the same. I had been spared, but by what? Mercy? A short attention span? Hunger? (Para.26) Meaning: They let me live, but what saved my life? Was it mercy? Was it because their attentions span was too short? Or was it their hunger that saved my life?If a person is “spared”, he is not harmed, although someone or something threatened him or harmed other people.e.g. We have lost everything, but our lives have been spared. 我们已失去了一切,可是我们保住了性命。“Spare” can also be used in the sense of “afford to give”.e.g. I forgot to bring any money for lunch. Can you spare three dollars? 我忘了带午饭钱了,你能给我三美元吗?10. I got to my feet, found the keys, entered and called 911. (Para. 28)get to ones feet: stand up 站起来e.g. It is a custom in China to get to ones feet to greet visitors.站起来迎接客人是中国人的习俗。11. He asked me to come to the station and look through mug shots.
