Yetwewerealwaysopposites.IamRomanCatholic,sheisJewish.Iamtall,sheisshort.Onerainyafternoononcampus,Michelleinsistedoncarryingtheumbrellaforbothofus,(IdontthinkIstoodupstraightuntilthenextday!) Backthen,shewasaspassionateaDemocratasIwasaRepublican.However,myfriendandIstillhadsomethingincommonthatwasmoreimportantthanallthedifferences.Wesharedthesamevaluesandtheyshowedupinadozenlittleways.Thatiswhywearefriendsalmost30yearslater.Furthermore,shehadbeenmovinginmydirectionpoliticallybefore,butSept.11,xxxx,broughtustoanewlevelofcommunication.Wehavebondedevenmoreduringthiselection. Sure,friendscantagreeoneverything,noraretheysupposedtobutthoughImaythinksomeonesaniceperson,fun,etc.,increasinglydeepdifferencesinourworldviewcantbeignoredinthesefrighteningtimes. Yet,westillliveverydifferentlives.Mycollegefriendhasbeenmarriedfor25yearstotheloveofherlife,themotherofthreeandanexecutiveinanentertainmentcorporation.Andmeanwhilehersinglefree-lancingwriter/actressfriend,evenafteralltheseyearsstilldoesimpressionsofheronlyinprintnow.
