文档简介

My Impressions after Reading: Gone With the WindRecently, I have just finished reading a famous novel written by Margaret MitchellGone With the Wind, which is one of the most famous and popular works among American novels. It took the author about 10 years to finish this great novel, the only in her life.Mitchell was born in Atlanta. Her mother was a suffragist and father was a prominent lawyer and the president of the Atlanta Historical Society. Mitchell grew up with the story of Atlanta and the battles of the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. At the age of fifteen, she wrote her journey. Mitchell graduated from Washington Seminary and started to study medicine at Smith College in 1918.The story happened during the Civil War eve. Scarlett, a 16-yeard old girl, she was lived in Tata manor in Georgia, was loving her neighbor Ashley Wilkes. However, after the war has broken out, Ashley Wilkes married with his young cousin Melanie. Scarlett was so angry that she decided to marry a man she did not really love-Charles Hamilton. Not long after that, Charles Hamilton joined the army and died of illness in the war. So Scarlett has to act a widow. Afterwards, at a donating dance party, Scarlett was acquainted with a captain named Rhett Butler. Many things had happened between them during the war. Finally, Scarlett realized that Rhett was the only one who could fall in love her.In this book, I like Scarletts bravery and strength, Rhetts decisiveness and Melanies strong will. When talks about Scarlett, Id like to say that I love her and hate her at the same time. She is a very individualizing character.I do think Scarlett is like a child, which on the one hand desperately lets herself happy. On the other hand, she propelled the happiness and pushed her spouse to the abyss. When she was faced with difficulties, she chose to meet and take responsibilities. But when she was confronted with love choice, at first, she chose to hide herself. When she finally recognized the problem, it is too late. She always told herself that tomorrow is another day and everything will be ok. Scarlett was vibrant and full of morale in the novel. I admire the most what was she said. Tomorrow is another day. She firmly insisted on herself when her daughter was died of falling down the horse. The words she said was filled with hope, moral and never giving up. This spirit, to me, was worthy learning from Scarlett. Sometimes when I encounter difficulties or in a bad mood, Ill tell myself: tomorrow is another day.In the whole book, I like Rhett most. He was courageous and persistent. He loved Scarlett decade and never changed. Everything he did was wanted to protect Scarlett, cared for her and doted on her. However, Scarlett refused.Gone With the Wind is absolutely worth reading again and again. The evaluation of American Civil War
