Did you grasp the point of what I said? 你领会我说的意思吗?4. nervous a. worried and anxious 紧张的,焦虑的Example:Do you feel nervous during exams? 考试时你紧张吗?I was very nervous about driving again after the accident. 事故后再驾车我显得非常紧张。5. announce v. a) to state or make known, especially publicly 宣布,宣告Example:She announced the winner of the competition to an excited audience. 她向激情高涨的听众宣布竞赛获奖者。b) to show that something is going to happen 宣布开始Example:The first few leaves in the gutter announced the beginning of autumn. 水沟里第一次出现的落叶预示着秋天的到来。6. proud a. feeling pleasure and satisfaction because you or people connected with you have done or got something good 自豪的Example:You must be very proud of your son. 你肯定以你儿子为荣。I was so proud that my son had been chosen for the national team. 儿子选入国家队,为此我感到非常自豪。7. certificate n. the document that acknowledges a qualification that you receive when you are successful such as in an examination 证书Example:She has a certificate in Drama Education. 她拥有一张戏剧教育的证书。Will you show me your enrollment certificate, please?请把你的入学通知书给我看好吗?8. interview n.a) a meeting in which someone is asked questions about themselves for a newspaper article, television show, etc. 采访Example:In a television interview last night,she denied she had any intention of resigning. 采访中她否定了辞职的意图。b) a meeting in which someone asks you questions to see if you are suitable for a job or position面试Example:I had an interview for a job with a publishing firm. 我参加了一个出版公司的招聘会。9. interview v. to ask someone questions in an interview 采访Example:Whos the most famous person youve ever interviewed on TV? 你在电视上采访过的最有名的人是谁?10. inspire v. to make someone have a particular feeling or reaction 激励Example:This will inspire them to further efforts to win economic independence. 这将鼓舞他们进一步努力去争取经济独立。He tried to inspire his employees. 他设法激励公司的员工。11. spirit n. willingness to assert oneself; courage 精神;勇气Example:The players have a very strong team spirit. 队员们有着强烈的团队精神。Was that against the spirit of the Olympics? 那违背奥林匹克精神吗?12. challenge n. (the situation of being faced with) something needing great mental or physical effort and which therefore tests a persons ability 挑战Example:Finding a solution to this problem is one of the greatest challenges faced by scientists today. 找到解决这个问题的办法仍是科学家们面临的最大挑战。Its going to be a difficult job but Im sure shell rise to the challenge. 这是个艰巨的工作,但她却勇于面对挑战。13. universe n. everything that exists, especially all physical matter, including all the stars, planets, galaxies, etc. in space宇宙,世界Example:Is there intelligent life elsewhere in the universe?宇宙的其他地方还有智能生命存在吗?The earth is only a speck in the universe. 地球在宇宙中只不过是一个小点罢了。Suggested Classroom activities:1. Group work(students discuss their ideas and experiences on this topic)2. Role-play-make a dialogue according to the teachers hints. 3. Word pictures-the students are required to find words that give vivid images from the text and try to write their own sentences accordingly. 4.
