九年级英语听力材料(深圳版*全一册) Page3 Chaptr1 Body languageDebbie and Simon have part-time jobs at a travel agency. It is Saturday morning. They are at work in the office.Debbie and Simon looked up as a well-dressed lady entered. The lady glanced at them both, and then walked over to Debbie. Debbie greeted her cheerfully.Hello, the lady said. 1 want to go by train from Shenzhen to Guangzhou .Simon sighed. Mr Young, a senior employee, was standing beside him.Whats up, Simon? You dont look very happy. The customers always prefer Debbie to me. I cant understand it.I can. Its the way you communicate. How can that be? Simon asked.I dont even get a chance to speak to them。Speech is not the only way we communicate. Body language is important, too. What kind of language is that? Its the way you stand and sit. Its your gestures and the expression on your face and in your eyes. Your whole appearance communicates things. You often rest your head on your hand. You dont look up. You never smile. So you dont make a good impression on the customers. But look at Debbie. Shes holding her head up. She makes eye contact with the customers. She smiles. Thats why the customers go to her, and not to you. After that, Simon decided to improve his body language. He sat up and smiled at the customers. Minutes later, a beautiful girl entered. She looked at Debbie and then at Simon. Without hesitation, she went to Simon and gave him a big smile. A few moments later, she left happily. Mr Young came over at once and said, You made a good impression on her. That was my sister, Simon said. She came to remind me that tomorrow is her birthday and she wanted to have lunch with me. It is based on the dancers steps and their graceful gestures. These movements are very smooth and flowing. Ballet can tell stories and express different feelings. It always shows ideas through dance instead of speech. This kind of classical dance began about 400 years ago and became a stage show in the 18th century. Today, many people around the world love to watch ballet. Through television, they can watch the worlds most famous ballets, such as Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty. To become a ballet dancer is no easy job. It is more than 4,000 kilometres long. It took a long time to build the wall. The work began in the fifth century ?, and the wall finally took shape in the third century BC. From Beijing, you can visit the Great Wall at Badaling, 70 kilometres northwest of the city. It is also possible to go hiking on the Great Wall in some other places.2 Shanghai Museum lies in the centre of Shanghai. The splendid museum building has a square base and a round top. The centre of the top is a glass dome, which looks like a huge bronze mirror. In the museum, you can find a large number of ancient Chinese bronzes, painting, etc. It is open between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. 3The scenery along the Li River in Guilin is just like a beautiful landscape painting. Take a boat trip, and you will be attracted by the peaks along the river and their reflections in the clear water. It is also great fun walking and cycling in Guilin. Along the paths near the river you can see local village life, and you can take a mud bath in the nearby caves. The best time to visit Guilin is from April to October, though it rains sometimes then。 Page 34 LISTENINGFollowing directions on a map Listen to Wendy telling her friend about her tour of Europe.Use a pencil to draw lines on the map below to show where she went. Here are extracts from three letters she received recently.1I had not seen my friend Amy for a long time, so last Sunday I went to visit her in her new high-rise flat. While I was there, she knocked a flower pot from her window by accident. It broke on the ground below and narrowly missed some children at play. No one was hurt, so we said nothing and left for the cinema. When we got home. we learnt that the police had just been to the flats and questioned everyone about the pot. Amy was too afraid to talk to the police. Now I feel guilty and dont know what to do .2 By nine oclock yesterday evening, I had finished my piano lesson and was taking the underground home. Three strong boys got on my almost empty carriage. They sat down beside a young boy who was travelling alone. They began to bully him. The boy was so frightened that he moved to another seat. However, the bigger boys just followed him and continued their bullying. Then the train stopped at my station. I got off the train and walked home. I felt very sorry for the boy, but I did not know how to help him. Im not strong enough and I hate violent behaviour. What could I do? .3The checkout assistant at my local supermarket is always rude and unhelpful. Yesterday, I gave her a 100-yuan note to pay for a bottle of water. She was so busy complaining that she gave me an extra 20-yuan note in my change by mistake. When I noticed the error, I went back and tried to tell her about it. Excuse me, I said. But before I could continue, she stopped me. Cant you see there is a queue? she shouted. Go to the end and wait your turn. Id had enough! I left the shop with the 20 yuan. Because she was rude, I decided to keep the money. Was I wrong? Page48 LISTENINGSome people are calling a radio programme to ask experts for advice on their problems.
