People usually realize less about it, so they will often make some mistakes. We should know more culture shock and learn how to avoid them. Key words: culture shock; multi-ethnic; avoid 摘要文化冲击在跨文化交际中是一个很重要的问题,而通常人们很少意识到不同国家、不同民族之间的文化冲击。这就是为什么总有人在这方面犯错误。我们应该了解学习更多文化冲击,并学会如何避免这种问题。关键词: 文化冲击;多国家多民族;避免1. Introduction Multi-ethnic culture shock is a very important problem in inter-cultural communication. People usually realize less about it, so they will often make some mistakes. We should know more culture shock and learn how to avoid them. Culture shock is just like an occupational disease of people who have been suddenly transplanted abroad. We do not know how to talk, shake hands, shopping, and even how to say hi. We have own custom, which we use more than twenty years. All of these have been our belief and creed. So we can not adapt them quickly.Nowadays, with the development of multimedia technology, we know more informations about culture shock, such as when two Americans said they are dating with each other, it do not means they are couple. How amazing news!Now, lets see some common culture shock.2. Examples 1. Culture shock in greet somebody in different country Nowadays, most countries adapt to greet people by shaking hands, but not every country adapts it. Japanese used to greet somebody with bow. The make a bow with each other to show their esteem. In this situation, some mistakes will be raised. An American people meet with a Japanese. The American reaches his hand, but he touches the Japaneses head just right. This is very embarrassed. France is a very romantic country, French always shows their emotion with exaggerated body language. They greet each other with hug, and even kiss each other on the cheek. If their guests are shy or close-minded, they may be not very happy. In the Arab States, two old friends meet each other not only shook hands and embraced, veneer. When the salute, hold each others left shoulder with the right hand, left hand arms around the opponents waist, left-right-left facing three times. If two people close to, also will be issued. Believe it or not, I can not adapt this way to show my happiness.2. The different meaning for colors Colors in different country have the different meaning. Chinese people think red is a very festive color. In spring festival, Chinese family always use red color to decorate their house, and they will wear red clothes to show their happiness. Red in China not only used in festival but also used in wedding ceremony. Chinese bride wear cheongsam, wedding dress in red. In west country, they think white means clean, chaste, and elegant, so they always wear white wedding dress in their wedding ceremony. But, red in British means atrocity, and white in China means ominous. This is a very big different in two cultures, if people neglect this culture shock, it will be a disaster. Green is a vivid color, but not every countries people like it. People who live in desert like green very much. In their opinion, green shows vitality, they use green on their national flag. But Japanese do not like green, they think green is ominous. Egyptian think green is evil, and English hate green because they always make shroud in olive green.3. Flower in different countriesCarnation in China always means benediction, we usually give carnation to mother to wish her happy mothers day. But in foreign countries, carnation shows refuse. Tulip in turkey means the symbol of love, but in Germany they think tulip is the flower which shows indifference. Peony in China means rich and honored, but in Germany they think peony means shy and overcautious. Chrysanthemum is more interesting. In Japan, they use chrysanthemum to symbolize imperial household, but in Europe, chrysanthemum only used to sacrifice at cemetery. In China, chrysanthemum shows integrity, but Italy and Latin America countries think chrysanthemum is monster in flower. Lotus water lily in China means chaste, but in Japan lotus water lily means unlucky.3. Case Summary All of them show that we should know how to greet people and what color or what flower means in the place where you will go, and that you will not make mistake in a foreign tour.4. Ways to avoid the culture shock Try to find some information about the country and culture you are going to. Try to have some control over your expectation, you self-awareness , and your personality, since you will have little control over the new culture.Try to be open-minded and optimistic.Try t
