What can we learn from paragraph 1? _ A. Researchers knew the number of penguins only by computersB. There are 751,527 pairs of penguins on the Antarctic PeninsulaC. Researcher may have never been to the Antarctic PeninsulaD. The Danger Islands may be fit for penguins to live on9. What does the underlined word census in paragraph 2 mean? _ A. Population countB. Living conditionC. BirthD. Desert10. Why are there many penguins on the Danger Islands? _ A. The Danger Islands is unknown for humansB. There is little climate change thereC. Many people are protecting penguinsD. The Danger Islands is free from being disturbed by humans11. What can we know from what Lynch said? _ A. Half of king penguins will die out in the futureB. The Antarctic Peninsula neednt become Protected AreasC. Because the Danger Islands is dangerous, it becomes a super habitatD. The number of penguins discovered here is the largest in the Antarctic Peninsula【答案】【小题1】D【小题2】A【小题3】D【小题4】D【解析】1D推理判断题根据第一段最后一句TheAdeliepenguinsdiscoveredhereismorethantherestintheotherplacesofAntarcticPeninsula,whichwaspublishedinthejournalScientificReports可知,在DangerIslands发现的企鹅数量比南极洲其他地方发现的数量都多,可知,这个地方适合企鹅生长,故选D 2A词义猜测题根据第二段第一句中的thenumber可知,751,527pairs这个数据是Adeliepenguins的数量,可以推出census与数量有关,故选A 3D推理判断题根据第二段Thesesuperhabitatshavegoneundiscoveredfordecadespartlybecausetheislandsthemselvesaredistantandthedangerouswatersthatsurroundthem可知,几十年都没发现这个巨大的企鹅栖息地是因为岛屿偏僻,周围水域危险,受人类活动的影响更小,故选D 4D推理判断题根据第二段Untilrecently,theDangerIslandswasntknowntobeanimportantpenguinhabitatHeatherLynch,anecologistfromStonyBrookUniversitywholedthestudy,said,Thesesuperhabitatshavegoneundiscoveredfordecadespartlybecausetheislandsthemselvesaredistantandthedangerouswatersthatsurroundthem可知,直到最近,DangerIslands才被人们了解为重要企鹅栖息地,主要原因是因为岛屿偏僻,周围水域危险,因此企鹅数量超过其他地方,故选D本文属于新闻,介绍科学家发现了栖息企鹅最多的地方,因为岛屿偏僻,周围水域危险,受人类活动的影响更小,因此几十年没被人发现,同时科学家正考虑采取措施保护这个栖息地关于词义猜测题做题技巧关于词义猜测题做题技巧词义猜测题是阅读理解中常见的一种题型,主要有对生词的词义猜测,熟词新义以及代词的猜测其关键是根据上下文的逻辑关系,利用已掌握的信息,有必要的时候,借助生活或者文化常识,确定单词的词义比如小题2,根据第二段第一句中的thenumber可知,751,527pairs这个数据是Adeliepenguins的数量,可以推出census与数量有关,确定答案D D People asked to imagine how flooding or droughts would affect particular people or places were more likely to engage in environmentally friendly actions. Many people view climate change as a distant threat. But having them imagine the tangible (有形的) consequences of resulting droughts or floods may help change this idea and encourage pro-environmental behavior, a new study suggests Researchers asked 93 college students to read a report on temperature anomalies (异常),floods and other climate change-related events that have affected the island. The scientists then asked 62 of the participants to write down three ways in which such phenomena might impact their future lives. Half the people in that group were instructed to imagine such situations in detail. The remaining 31 students did not complete either the writing or imagining steps, acting as a control group All the participants then rated their ideas of climate change risks by responding to questions such as How likely do you think it is that climate change is having serious impacts on the world? They used a scale from 1 (very unlikely) to 7 (very likely) The average score was higher among subjects who had been asked to envision detailed situations than among those who had not. The results were later confirmed in a second experiment involving 102 participants Participants in the first experiment who had imagined the effects of climate change were more likely to say they would use air conditioning in an energy-saving manner. In the second experiment, nearly two thirds of people in the visualizing (想象) group signed up to help clean a beach, compared with 43 percent in the nonvisualizing one. And when offered a choice of a vegetarian (素食主义的) or nonvegetarian lunch box, nearly half the visualizers selected the environmentally friendlier meatless choice-compared with about 28 percent of the nonvisualizers The researchers did not track people to see if they behaved differently in their day-to-day lives-something further studies should examine, says study co-author Wen-Bin Chiou. Moreover, the research should be done again in other places with other populations, says Robert Gifford, a professor of psychology at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, who was not involved in the work. The findings could be applied to raise public concern about climate change, Chiou says. For example, he suggests that news reports about the phenomenon could include vivid descriptions of its effects on peoples lives and ask readers to imagine experiencing such impacts. Having virtual-reality demonstrations (展示) in local science museums of the consequences of climate change would be another way of putting the research into practice, Chiou adds.12. Which of the following statements about the study is true?A. Only one experiment was carried out for the study.B. Professor Robert Gifford played a key role in the study.C. The control group only completed the writing step in the experiment.D. Participants asked to imagine detailed effects scored higher than those who werent.13. Future studies will probably be about whether _.A. it is true of other populations in other placesB. more money will be donated to the people affected by climate change-related eventsC. people choose vegetarian lunch boxes in their daily livesD. climate change will cause people to think about joining in a control group14. To put the research into practice, Wen-Bin Chiou suggests that _A. the government call on people to live a low-carbon lifeB. people use air conditioning in an energy-saving mannerC. people experience possible effects of climate change through virtual reality facilitiesD. news reports provide vivid descriptions of the effects of climate change on peoples lives15. The passage mainly tells us that _.A. different people may have different reactions to climate changeB. different forms of climate change may affect peoples ideas in different waysC. people may change their behavior after thinking about the vivid impacts of climate changeD. college students show great concern for the people affected by climate change【答案】【小题1】D【小题2】D【小题3】C【小题4】C【解析】【文章大意】这是一篇说明文。 【关键词】imagine; flooding or droughts;climate change;proenvironmental behavior.1. 由第三段“The average score was higher among subjects who had been asked to envision detailed situations than among those who had not”可知,被要求设想详细情景的受试者的平均得分高于未被要求设想详细情景的受试者的平均得分。故选D。2. For example, he suggests that news reports about the phenomenon could include vivid descriptions of its effects on people, lives and ask readers to imagine experiencing such impacts. The researchers did not track people to see if they behaved differently in their day-to-day lives something further studies should examine, says study co-author Wen-Bin Chiou可知Chiou 补充说,在当地的科学博物馆里进行虚拟现实演示,展示气候变化的后果,将是将这项研究付诸实践的另一种方式。 But having them imagine the tangible (有形的) consequences of resulting droughts or floods may help change this idea and encourage proenvironmental behavior, a new study suggests但一项新的研究表明,让他们想象由此产生的干旱或洪水的后果可能有助于改变“许多人认为气候变化是一个遥远的威胁”这一观念,并鼓励有利于环境的行为。 二、阅读七选五(本大题共5小题,共10.0分)Depression can be harmful to those affected by the disease, but the pain it causes doesnt end there (1) They can see the damage the disease is causing, but may feel helpless or confused about what to do to assist Yet there are many ways that friends and family can help Know the symptoms (2) That means learning the symptoms of depression Also, it means realizing that the individual may not recognize the signs himself or herself Depression may appear as persistent unhappiness, anger, tiredness or other feelings and emotions that the individual may owe to something other than depression Be sympathetic The most important thing is to be sympathetic (3) Listen with patience andacceptance Let the person talk about how theyre feeling no matter how sad or negative their comments are Do not argue about their points or try to convince them to see things in a more positive light, because someone wrestling with depression does not have the ability to do so (4) Talk to your physician and share whats going on and ask what they suggest It wont be the first time they have heard this, and they have resources that will be helpful For the friend or loved one, the best thing to offer is your understanding and a sense of hope Let them know that, they will start to feel better and see things differently once they seek help an
