It was founded in London in 1991 by the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation to act as a new group holding company. Its a listed company in London Stock Exchange (LSE) and one of the constituent stocks of FTSE 100. HSBC has around 6,600 offices in 80 countries and territories across Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America, and around 125 million customers. They also have branches in China. HSBC has a significant presence in each of the worlds major financial markets. As a result, I believe it is a good choice for this research project. The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc (RBS) is a British banking and insurance holding company, based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Its a listed company in London Stock Exchange (LSE) and one of the constituent stocks of FTSE 100. The group operates a wide variety of banking brands offering personal and business banking, private banking, insurance and corporate finance through its offices located in Europe, North America and Asia. Subsequently, with a slumping share price and major loss of confidence, the bank fell sharply in the rankings.
