Into The WildSean Penns new movie Into the Wild tells about a college graduate who decides that the anger and violence in civilized society is too much to handle and commences a journey through nature in order to truly live life as it was meant to be. This film is a wonderful glimpse into the life of a kid, wise beyond his years, and the bonds that he creates with people along the way. A victim of excess in wealth and a shortage of love, Christopher McCandless hids inside his mind behind knowledge and builds up his intellectual strength, as well as the physical, in order to complete his task, ultimately leading him to Alaska. Penn never falls into the trap of showing too much heartbreak on the side of McCandlesss parents. There is no debate to be had here, our protagonist has no alternative but to get out and live off the land. Only being completely self-sufficient can he grasp a meaning for his life and one day perhaps go back with that knowledge fully learned.Emile Hirsch is absolutely brilliant with his good-natured attitude and affable charm. His character believes that human contact is not necessary for happiness and never seeks out relationships. However, his character is so likable that they find him and latch on, not to change his mind, but to experience his level of being and hopefully learn something from him and help enlarge his vocabulary on life. The people he meets help him to fully grasp the decision of life in the wild and be able to survive it. Hirsch always holds a smile on his face. One scene, where he meets up with a couple of people from Europe, proves how contagious a clear outlook on life without the troubles of societal restraints can be. These three kids have a blast, if only for a few minuteswith Hirsch being chased by the police for rafting with no licenseand it makes one wonder if maybe we all should take a journey into nature and feel the freedom and full warmth of heart that a lack of stress to succeed in the business world can give. All the supporting players are magnificent at helping show the side to McCandless that Penn needs on display to succeed. Hal Holbrook, Brian Dierker, and Catherine Keener are by far the best of these side characters with Vince Vaughn and Kirsten Stewart adding some charm too. Dierker, Keener, and Stewart play hippie, flower-child type roles and allow Hirsch to show off how modest and unselfish he is. This is the family he deserved to have from birth and he is the son they wished their lives had earned them. At their best, all four together give some of the most emotionally charged moments in the film. Holbrook, on-the-other-hand, helps give insight into the philosophy that Hirsch needs to live with in order to survive the loneliness, looking him in the face, to come in Alaska. It is truly fascinating to see how every person adds something to his overall experience and to the tools he needs. On the View of love and marriage Seen in Pride and Prejudice AbstractPride and prejudice is Austins great work. Through the discussion of the different marriages and love, the writer demonstrates her concept about love and marriage: love and marriage is closely associated with property and society, however, love and marriage can not only be decided by the property and social status. An ideal marriage should be based on mutual affection and respect. She rejects the marriage based on wealth and stresses the element of emotion in a marriage. IntroductionPride and prejudice ,the book about commonplace things and ordinary people, is one of Jane Austens famous book, being the representative of realistic literature. This novel makes an analysis of human nature and then stick up readers to think over social relations and takes young peoples marriage as the thread and it covers the inheritance of fortune, womens social status, ethics and customs. Being the masterpiece of Jane Austen, it comes to the extensive favor of literary lovers and experts at the same time. This paper makes an analysis of four marriages in pride and prejudice and discusses the deep outlook for their love and marriage in the light of social back ground at the time.正文In this great book, the author amply demonstrates her point about love and marriage. People naturally thought that women should be submissive to their husbands. The virtues of women were patient and deferent. They must recognize their inherent inferiority to men, so they must restrict their abilities without conditions. Although the status of women was slow, few of them expressed dissatisfaction about their own destiny. At that time, many middle-class young women had three solutions: getting married; staying at home as old maids or working as the family female teachers. The income of family female teacher was very low, and the status was low as well. It was very difficult for them to change or swap out of this status, no one would like to be a maid forever, therefore, in terms of young women, especially those who dont have enough properties, to get married was the only way for them to gain respect, stability and social status.Austin fully critiqued some bad phenomenon in her work pride and prejudice, taking some perfect points about marriage and love to demonstrate her own view on love and marriage.I. The Four Marriages and the Revealed Concept of Love and Marriage in Pride and PrejudiceA. The Concept about Love and Marriage in the SocietyThe stories show the ordinary lives, feelings of the ordinary people. They were linked up in a harmonious order under the authors meticulous concepts. The work mainly describes four marriages. Two are the main and assisted by the other two assistant marriages.“Darcy and Elizabeths love and marriage is the main theme of this work. After undergoing many setbacks, Darcys arrogance and Elizabeths prejudice eventually eliminates, the lovers finally get married. The marriage of Elizabeths sister Jane and Darcys friend Bingley is another clue. They deeply love each other, but they are multiblocked, after their departure, Jane misses Bingley very much. The two marriages reflects the another point of view in positive way that marriage should be based on true love, which is the ideal marry in the authors opinion. The stories seem to be the ordinary lives, feelings and persons linked up in a harmonious order under the others meticulous concepts. However, the marriage between Charlotte and Collins is a negative example with the marriage between Lydia and Wickham, which help to make the plots more tortuous and richer.”.(Zhu Hong,P12,1985)II. Austins Concept about Love and MarriageThe author embodies four different marriages in the novel. From the analysis of the marriages, we can find the authors idea about marriage: marriage and property and social status are interconnected. But marriage could not only depend on the property and the social status. The happy marriage should be based on the mutual respect, mutual admiration. She objects the marriage for money and opposes the thoughtless marriage, but stresses the importance of emotional factors.1. Collins and Charlottes MarriageIn pride and prejudice, the first part is the marriage of Charlotte and Collins, their marriage is lucky and natural. They get married without any expectation. Charlotte isWilliam Lucass daughter, who is the neighbor of Lizzy Bennett.one of Bennett nephewCollins can inherit the family wealth. A mediocre love, a dull marriage has been established effortlessly. Such marriage without love is too practical, so it is a kind of superficial marriage without happiness. 2. Lydia and Wickhams MarriageThe second marriage is between Bennetts third daughter Lydia and Wickham, the son of the housekeeper. This marriage is one without love. They dont the real meaning of marriage, they only want to satisfy their aspiration. So we can say this is a kind of impromptu love and marriage without true love and responsibility. Such couple only seek having had the experience but not everlasting and unchanging. Of course, such kind of marriage is doomed to be a tragedy. 3. Jane and Mr. Bingleys MarriageThe third marriage is of the eldest daughter Jane and Mr. Bingley. Bingley is a friend of Darcy. Bingleys sister loves Darcy very much. She wants Bingley to get married with Darcys sister Georgiana, because she wants to get love from Darcy by this way, which also reflects the selfishness the sister. The marriage of the able man- Bingley and the beautiful girl-Jane is ideal in most peoples eyes. Of course, the couple meets many setbacks, such as the misunderstanding of Darcy and Bingleys selfish sister. At last, the lovers get married as the misunderstanding between Elizabeth and Darcy has been solved.4. Darcy and Elizabeths Marriage. The fourth marriage is the main theme of the works. That is Darcy and Elizabeths marriage. At the beginning, Elizabeth rejects the pursuer-Darcy, because she does not like him, even looks down upon him though Darcy loves her very much.Because of Darcys perfect behavior and good education, Elizabeth gradually eliminates the bias on Darcy. Then they spontaneously fall in love. So when Darcys second suitor is sent to Elizabeth, Elizabeth readily agree with, and they get married and have happy family livesConclusionBy description and discussion of the four marriages in the novel, we can see that Austen fully expresses her views on love and marriage only by appreciating the marriage founded on the basis of mutual understanding and true love, but also by satirizing the marriage founded on the basis of origin and desire. The marriage based on social position and money cant bring happy life. Aimless marriage and love are impracticable.Austens views on marriage and love are also suitable for our real social. We youth should make right marriage and love views to orient our lives. In the novel she mainly describes the relationship between the Joy Luck Club mothers and their daughters and cultural conflicts. The novel is set in the age of globalization and in the multicultural American society; it represents the process of misunderstanding, conflicts, understanding and blending between the mothers and the daughters. As the degree of globalization is getting deeper, Chinese culture faces the danger of being integrated and changed by other cultures. Through contextual analysis of the Joy Luck Club and the cultural conflicts and blending embodied in it, this paper demonstrates that in the age of globalization a balance should be kept among different cultures, and a right attitude towards cultural conflicts should be taken, and it suggests that the native culture should not be thrown away when learning from others, and instead, it should be transmitted to others. Introduction In the novel The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan explores the relationship between mothers and daughters. There are 4 mother-daughter pairs in the novel, mothers are the first generation immigrants, and the daughters are born in America. The Joy Luck Club mothers come from the Chinese traditional families when the dictatorial Chinese power is destroyed by the Japanese insurgents in the 1940s. They escape from the political upheaval of China, but they dont forget their Chinese traditional culture, while their daughters are born in America, they are the second generation immigrants, and they dont understand their mothers Chinese culture, and their way of thinking, so there are often misunderstandings between the mothers and the daughters. In order to make their daughters know them and the Chinese culture, the Joy Luck Club mothers have made pain- taking efforts to remove their differences. This paper, through the exploration of The Joy Luck Club, mainly discusses the cultural conflicts, understanding and integration between the mothers and the daughters, and metaphorically between Chinese culture and American culture.正文IAmy Tan and Her Novel The Joy Luck ClubAmy Tan was born in Oakland, California. Both of her parents were Chinese immigrants. Her father, John Tan, was an electrical engineer and Baptist minister. She has experienced the same kind of conflicts which she portrayed in the novel. In the novel, Jing-Mei abandoned studying piano her mother hoped her to study, because she was allergic to her mothers arrangement for her. Amy Tan and the daughters in the novel have something in common. They are the second-generation immigrants. But the mothers, as the first generation immigrants, they dont totally integrate in the American culture. They cannot speak English with fluency. They never discard the tradition and never forget their lives in China. With the clash of different cultures, the two generations have difficulties in communicating and understanding each other. But the novel doesnt end with the conflicts; instead, in the process of growing up they understand their mothers love and the cultural reasons of the conflicts between themselves and their mothers in a deeper level. Therefore, at the end of the novel, the reconciliation between mothers and daughters forms naturally. Jing-Mei takes her mothers place to travel back to China which proves the understanding between the two generations. The Conflicts Between American and Chinese CulturesThe Joy Luck Club presents many conflicts in the mother-daughter relationship. The conflicts are embodied in 3 aspects. First, the mothers and the daughters are in different cultural backgrounds, and the daughters cannot understand their mothers. Second, the communication problems also arise because the mothers are from China, while daughters are born in the United States, their cultural backgrounds are different, and also because they speak different languages. Third, the mothers and the daughters have totally different experiences. The mothers have been to America during the World War , when China was intruded by Japanese army. The daughters are born in America, they dont appreciate the Chinese tradition and view their Chinese history as a barrier to their dreams, they resent their mother pouring the Chinese tradition to them and their Chinese way of love, so they do things opposite to what their mother told them to do to disappoint their mothers. The Cultural Understanding and BlendingAlthough Amy Tan mainly describes the cultural clashes in her novel, her real aim is to explore a balance of cultural conflicts. An important theme of the novel is the reconciliation of the multi-cultural clashes. From the beginning of the novel, Jing-Mei views the gap between her and her mother from two aspects, and this double point of view doesnt emphasize the generation gap, but instead, it works as the bridge of the communication between the two generations. In the third part of the novel, the four daughters narrate their dilemmas after they grew up, -problems in their marriage and in their careers. Although they think their mothers ideas are out of date, when they search for the solutions, they inevitably come back to the relationship with the older generation. Although she expresses her ideas by disobeying her mother to marry Ted, she still makes herself the victim to Ted. At home, Ted decides everything. At last, she needs her mothers interventio n to realize that to refuse to make decision is itself a decision. The last two groups of stories demonstrate that the cultural understanding and blending are formed. A Correct Attitude Towards CultureAn unprecedented development happened in America during the 20th century. This rapid development on economy has accelerated the worldwide immigration. As the living environment is gradually changing, these Chinese immigrants has something changed in their mind, in other words, they feel that their history is gradually fading away, especially their offspring, lose the relation to their native culture. The second and third generation immigrants dont keep their family tree anymore. These people, such as Amy Tan and other Chinese-American writers as well as the daughters in The Joy Luck Club, are born and grow up in
