The listening material is information about great books. Its a good text to help the students improve their listening strategies, such as getting information from the listening material.教学目标【知识目标】I. Listen and check your answers to Activity 1. Confucius : great, influence, respect , thinker, thought, wise Shakespeare : play, poem, writer Mark Twain : story, writer 2. Listen again and complete the sentences. Confucius is well-known in _. Shaksespeare wrote _. Mark Twains stories are set _ of the US.【设计意图】让学生掌握一些描述作家、思想家以及他们代表作的词汇,从而为后面听对话、读短文以及模块任务的开展做好铺垫。学生通过谈论图片中的人物,可以展开积极思维,将对这三位名人的了解和听力内容建立起联系。Step IIWhile-listening(I) First-listeningListen and answer the questions.1. Conclusion : 结构:主(动作接受者)+am/is/are+ v.过去分词+(by+动作执行者) 【设计意图】通过两遍听力,锻炼学生的听力,促进学生听力水平的提高,同时让学生了解三位伟大作家以及他们的作品情况。Step III Post-listeningRead the dialogue and complete the passage with the correct form of the words in the box. Mr Jackson and Betty are (1)_ great writers. Betty explains that in her Internet group, each person reads a favourite book and then writes a(n)(2)_ of it. Mr Jackson thinks that we are still (6)_ by Confucius ideas and that Shakespeares plays still make (7)_ to people today. 【设计意图】通过阅读进一步理解对话。Step IV Language points1. 在本模块中,work是名词,意为“著作;作品”,既可以指文字作品,也可以指音乐、美术等作品。如:He is making a study of William Faulkners works. 他在研究威廉福克纳的作品。 其它用法回顾: (1) 作名词,意为“工作;(要做的)事情”。如: I cant find work in this town. 在这个小镇上我找不到工作。 He did much work for class every day. 他每天为班级做好多事情。(2) 作动词,意为“工作”。如: Henry works in a bank. 享利在银行工作。(3) 作动词,意为“运转;运行”。如: My watch doesnt work. 我的表不走了。2. But I think Id describe Confucius more as a teacher and thinker than a writer. 我更愿意把孔子描述为教师兼思想家,而非作家。morethan 在本文中指“与其说不如说”常见的用法有:(1)比更(形容词和副词的比较级)。如:Sheismorebeautifulthanhersister.她比她妹妹更漂亮。(2)与其说不如说。如:Hewasmorehard-workingthanclever. 与其说他聪明不如说他勤奋。3. make sense 讲得通,有意义,合情合理的。Can you make sense out of what this book says? 你能理解这本书的内容吗?It would make sense to leave early. 还是早点走好。4. by the way 顺便说一下Not bad. By the way, how is your mother? 还好。顺便问一下,你母亲怎么样?5. He was important, but I suppose he isnt as well-known as Confucius or Shakespeare.(1) suppose 猜想,推测,相信,认为。I suppose hell come back now.我想他这会儿该回来了。(2) asas意为“和一样”,表示同级的比较。使用时要注意第一个as为副词,第二个as为连词。其基本结构为:as+ adj./ adv. +as。 This film is as interesting as that one.这部电影和那部电影一样有趣。 其否定式为not as/so +adj./ adv. +as。例如: This dictionary is not as/so useful as you think.这本字典不如你想象的那样有用。若有修饰成分,如twice, three times, half,a quarter等,则须置于第一个as之前。 Your bag is twice as expensive as mine.你的袋子比我的贵一倍。 (3) well-known出名的, 众所周知的 (+for/as); 熟知的He is one of the worlds best-known opera singers. 他是世界上最有名的歌剧演员之一。【设计意图】进一步理解文本内容。Step V.
