Ask the students to listen to the dialogue between Eddie and Hobo.2. Listen again. This time, ask the students the question like this. “Whats the weather like in the dialogue?” and so on.3. Go through the dialogue between Eddie and Hobo and explain the meaning. 4. Work in pairs. Read the dialogue .5. Ask some students to show the dialogue, ask some pairs to act it out. See which pair can act best.Step 4. Presentation 2 1. Present some new vocabulary to help students understand the headline .e.g., earthquake accident, crash, flood, lightning and storm.2. The teacher says: “The Taiwan earthquake is believed to be the strongest one in Taiwan last century. More than 2,300 people were killed. But a teenager named Timmy was lucky enough to survive. Do you want to know the story of his survival?”2.Play the tape, get the Ss to go through the story quickly. Make sure they can understand it. Underline key points when they are repeating. Step 7 Practice1. Complete Sandys diary on Page 96 and check the answers. Ask one student to read the diary.2. Show the pictures of Part C on Page 97.Let the Ss say something about them. Try to say as many as possible. Then put the pictures into the correct order.3.Work in pairs. Ask and answer about the pictures , such as “Did the wall come down? Where did people run out? etc.4. Tell students that the simple past tense is used for a completed action in the past. The past continuous tense is used to describe an ongoing situation in the past.
