Im also an undergraduate student, and I have a problem to choose whether to continue study or find a job after graduating. I want to know the advantages and disadvantages of continuing study and working in the society.Im an undergraduate student, and many classmates of mine have decided what they want to do in the future. Im very worried about it. I want to know the life of graduate students and the working undergraduate students, and I wonder what the difference between them two. I also want to know what kind of job for graduate students and undergraduate students, and also the difference between them.In order to know all that, I have many means to get information. I could make a questionnaire survey to see how other people think about this question. I could search on the Internet to see the advantages and disadvantages. I would ask the companies what kind of person would meet their needs and the salary of both. I will also ask for advices for those who have been postgraduate students and those who have worked after graduating. By doing all of those, I think I could get what I want to know and make the right decision of whether should I continuing study or finding a job after graduating.What I already know about my topic.Nowadays, there are more and more undergraduate students graduate from universities every year. At 2004, there were about one million undergraduates, and at 2012, it is predicted that there will be more than six million undergraduates. The work places are limited, so most of them will have no job. Im wondering what I can do to perfect myself. Some students decided to continue their study to be a graduate student. Some one decided to find a job and some one decided to be a national officer.Many classmates of mine have decided to continue their study. Here have two choices, one of them is to study in our country, and the other one is to study overseas. In our country, many universities begin to extend their enrollment of graduate students. Few years ago, one teacher taught about 10 graduate students, but nowadays, one teacher teaches about 20 graduate students. Years ago, only few universities have masters degree. Some students decide to continue their study overseas. It is a good choice for me, too. Because Im an English major student, I will have a good circumstance to speak more and speak fluently. However, studying overseas is very complex. Firstly, student should decide which country he prefers to go. If he wants to go to America, he should pass TOEFL (Testing of English as a Foreign Language). If he wants to go to Australia or England to continue study, he should pass IELTS (International English Language Testing System). After pass the exam, the student who wants to go overseas should apply for school which he wants to study in. After all those things have been done, one should get a visa. Then he can go overseas.I also know something about graduate students life. I know one of them. She is still studying in the school. Shes very busy everyday. Except for her regular study, she is also busying in earning money by doing some part-time jobs. She can almost support herself by her own money. I like this kind of life. People say that jobs for graduate students and jobs for undergraduate students are totally different. Last summer and winter holiday, I found a job as bank teller. That was a precious experience for me. I had learnt a lot of things from that. I got up 7:00 everyday morning. The work began at 8:30. Although the work is not so hard, I got very tired when I rang off. I found I have many things to learn, and those are what we cant touch in school, so I am wondering in what situation I could learn more, in school or in work.I have a sister who has got masters degree. She is now a high school teacher. She is busy everyday, but she told me that such life is not good for a girl because that is too tired. She suggested me to find a job after graduating. But I have a friend who have worked for several years after graduating from high school. She told me that working is hard and boring. Im puzzled. I also know that if I continue studying, I would be an investigator in the future. I found the life of the investigator is very boring. A friend of mine also told me that if I dont want to be an investigator, there is no necessary to continue study.What I want to knowI want to know what kind of job is available to graduate students and undergraduate students, and the difference between them.I want to know is continuing study necessary in my future career.I want to know in what way I can learn more, in working or in studying.I want to know whether graduate students live better than undergraduate students.My research and interviewI started my research with a questionnaire. I listed five questions for this survey. Do you prefer to continue study after graduate? Do you think that is necessary for undergraduate students to continue study? Do you think that graduate students live better than undergraduate students in the future? Which one do you think you can learn more, in school or in working? Based on your situation, could you please tell me your opinion on whether one should go on studying or not. I copied this for 100 times and sent them to 100 different people. Among them, 70% think that one should continue study, because the situation of our country pulls us to do like this. 30% of them think theres no necessity to go on study. 50% of them think it depends on different major, and 10% of them think it depends on individuals, and the other 10% think theres no necessity at all. Almost nobody think that graduate students must live a better life than undergraduates. 73% think one can learn more in working, and other 27% study gives them more. The answers to the fifth question shocked me greatly. Almost more than half of them gave me a same answer. They think undergraduates dont need to continue study, but the reality pulls them forward to go on study. The reality is the difficulty of finding job and the lower salary of undergraduates.After doing that, I was still puzzled, so I do an interview on the Internet. I interviewed Gan Yuan who is a famous teacher and the guest of honor of sina website by email. I asked him whether jobs for graduate students are better than for undergraduate students. He told me that was wrong. That depends on. Sometimes undergraduate students have more opportunities than graduate students, because for the same vacant work place, companies prefer to employ undergraduate students rather than graduate students because of the formers lower salary. I also asked him whether an English major student should go on studying. He told me that language is just a tool; the experience get from work is greatly more than from school studying.I also got some important data on the Internet. The number of graduate students grow higher and higher. Compared with the number of 2009, it increased to 1408000, and increased by 13%. On this point, people began to consider whether those graduate students were good enough. Thus, the masters degree will effect little in the future when people find a job (Gan Yuan, 2010). Some people did a survey of the demand of the employees. This survey was performed in Beijing, Hebei, Xinjiang and many other 23 provinces. The survey showed that they need totally 1665044 students to work for them, and among them graduate students were 177003, and undergraduate students were 923519. This told us that higher degree doesnt means easier to find a job (, 2008). Those data above shows me a reality that if I dont want to do research work or to be a teacher in the future, I can find a job directly after graduate. However, if I want to do those works, the situation will go another way. After doing those researches, I also did an interview on my high school teacher. She had got her masters degree. I asked her if I should continue my study. She told me that I should go on studying. She said even in high school, they need graduate school student to be their teacher. I was scared. She told me if I want to be a teacher in the future, I should continue my study. Then she told me one of her friends story. Her friends name is Kevin. Kevin was a very clever person and his life was very smooth before he became a teacher. After being a teacher, he found his bachelors degree was hard to get higher place in the school, so he took the entrance exam for postgraduate schools after he graduated from school for three years.I also interviewed an expertise in this area. Hes name is Andrew Lee. He is a famous teacher of Hai Tian education. He has taught in Huhhot for more than 16 years. I interviewed him.-I: Its my honor to interview you, could you please tell me whether I should continue study?-Lee: This question is too broad. I think its little difficult to answer. Maybe I could know what you want to do in the future.-I: Im planning to be a teacher, but I havent decided yet.-Lee: Thats it. If you want to a teacher, you should continue, but if you dont, you can work at once.-I: If I find a job, could I find one better than graduate students?-Lee: Of course. Everyone could lead a happy life if one work hard. You will learn more than in real life.-I: If I decide to continue study, which one is better, staying in our country or go overseas?-Lee: Going aboard is better, if your family can afford you.-I: But I dont know how to make my decision.-Lee: Theres no need for you to decide now. You can prepare both finding job and the exam. After the exam is over and find a job, you can choose one of them.-I: Oh, I see, thank you Mr. Lee.-Lee: Youre welcome.What I learntI learnt so much from what I did before. I know that I can have a good job no matter I am a graduate student or an undergraduate student. If I work hard, I will gain a lot. As American famous journalist David Grayson said” Happiness, I have discovered, is nearly always a rebound from hard work.” (David Grayson, 2011) I also learnt that whether I should continue study or find a job directly depends on what I really want to do in the future. If I want to do some research work or to be a teacher, I should continue my study. I learnt that there are more and more graduate students nowadays. Masters degree is not that precious like before when I find job. If I dont want to do a job like researchers or teachers, I can find a job directly. ConclusionAfter doing all above, I know what I want to do in the following days. I was puzzled before about whether I should go on studying or not. I know what I will do next. Ive learnt that go overseas to continue study is a good choice, but because the procedure is so complex and I know that will cost a lot, so that is not a good choice for me. Ive also learnt that both graduate students and undergraduate students can have good life. Although different degree leads to different kinds of life, but this doesnt means good life or bad life. The quality of life is decided by the effort I have paid. Theres no connection between my degree and my life quality. I learnt that what I want to do in th
