Unit 9 What does he look like? Writing (3a-3b) 焦作市第十七中学 杨梅B Good afternoon, everyone! Im very glad to be here to present my lesson. Im Yang Mei from No. 17 Middle School. Today Ill say the writing of Unit 9. Its from Grade 7 in Go For It! The title is “What does he look like?” Ill present the lesson in the following parts:、Analysis of the Text 、Analysis of the Students 、Teaching Methods 、Teaching Procedures 、Blackboard Design 、Re-thinking. Now lets move on to the first part.PartAnalysis of the Text(一) Teaching contents This lesson is a writing lesson. It is from Unit 9 of Grade 7. Its about describing peoples appearances. By studying it, students can learn how to talk about peoples appearances in a proper way. At the same time, they should learn everyone is special and important, never judge a person by his look.(2) Teaching aims1 Aims on Knowledge To help Ss learn the new vocabulary and language points tall short medium height build curly straight . What does he look like? He/She is tall/short /of medium height/build. He /She has long straight hair. 2 Aims on Abilities To improve Sswriting skills as well as speaking skills. 3 Aims on Emotions Enable Ss to learn by cooperating(三)Teaching DifficultiesHow to improve Ss writing skills.Enable Ss to talk about peoples appearances freely.OK, please allow me to report the second part.Part Analysis of the StudentsNowadays, writing is an important skill as listening, speaking and reading. However, it is a little difficult for the Ss of Grade 7 and their writing skills really need guiding and improving. So teachers should always remember to provide them enough opportunities and some strategies when teaching knowledge. At the same time, since Ss like to discuss in groups when they have difficulties, teachers should also allow Ss to learn by cooperating.Next, I want to tell you about the third part.Part Teaching MethodsI think good teaching methods are the keys to success. In this lesson, Ill mainly use the “task-based” teaching method, and it will be used in the whole lesson. I think its helpful to develop the Ss thoughts. Ill also use “Heuristics” teaching method to encourage Ss to learn by themselves in order to develop Ss interest. Of course, Ill use “ Co-operation” teaching method. It can help the Ss to learn from others. Would you mind listening to my teaching procedures?Part Teaching Procedures It includes six steps: Lead-in, Pre-writing, A guessing game, Writing, Show time, HomeworkStep 1 Lead-in First of all, Ill tell Ss what they should have to do in this lesson. Then ask Ss to pass the following stages. In order to attract the Ss attention, Ill begin my class with some interesting pictures about different peoples appearances to lead Ss to read and spell the key words and phrases together. Next, show Ss: “Congratulations to pass Stage 1, ready to Stage 2. I design this step because I think interest is a powerful driving force to encourage the Ss to learn. Its important to interest Ss at the beginning of the class, and its also necessary to provide a background information to lead in new topic .Step 2 Pre-writingIn this step, Ill show Ss some comics to ask Ss to practice the target language in pairs, after that, show Ss: “Congratulations to pass Stage 2, ready to Stage 3. I design this step for the following purpose: Before writing, the teacher should help Ss to get rid of some difficulties. They need to prepare in two aspects. One is the preparation of language points, the other is the preparation of topic. Step 3 A guessing gameIn this step, task-based teaching method is used here to improve Ss listening and speaking. Now, its my specific design. In this step, Ill ask a volunteer to read the key words one by one, while the other Ss must keep their eyes closed to guess the answers as soon as possible. Then tell Ss to make sentences with the words given. Next encourage Ss to form a short composition. Ill also ask Ss to play the same game in groups. If Ss have difficulties, they can solve them together. After that, show Ss: “Congratulations to pass Stage 3, ready to Stage 4. In this step, Ss can fully understand the target language of the unit little by little. This step aims to improve studentslogical thinking ability. It can also train students ability of expression. Step 4 Writing First, tell Ss to complete 3a on the book by themselves, then read together. Next, ask them to describe their friend with the help of the questions. This step aims to develop Sscreative thinking. Ss can also use English as much as possible in class. Its necessary for Ss to make new things to enrich the knowledge they learnt. Step 5 Show time Ill show some pieces of works to ask Ss to correct and choose who the best writer is. After that, ask Ss to make a list of the good sentences on the Bb, then tell Ss to read together in order to memorize. This step aims to develop Ss interest in writing.Step 6 Homework1 Guess who he/she is?2 Write a short passage according to the information in the chart.Part Blackboard Design This is my blackboard design.Key words and Key phrases tall short medium height build curly straight of medium height/ build curly hair .Key sentences What does he look like? He/She is tall/short /of medium height/build. He /She has long straight hair. Good sentences . Part Re-thinkingIn this class, Im only the director, students are the main part. I try my best to let the students experience the pleasure of writing. Group work helps students learn to work with each other to solve the problems more easily.
