Stick ParentingMy uncle always teaches his 6-year-old son by severe measures. He seems to get the idea that stick parenting is the best way to teach his child. But despite a few successful cases, stick parenting is not a good choice for most kids.First of all, I have always thought that stick parenting is a brutal, arbitrary educational mode, stick parenting should be opposed. Confucius had always advocated teaching according to ones ability, many people inherit this tradition. The prevalence of stick parenting relates to the lack of childrens rights in Chinese traditional thinking. Foreigners respect the rights of children sufficiently, parents strongly oppose stick parenting. The Chinese Government has also passed legislation to protect children from corporal punishment, but the most of parents do not understand the governments action, they also do not pay attention and comply with legal regulations. The concept of modern children that children have a legal right to human dignity should be protected. But in the Chinese peoples concept ,this is still relatively weak.Second, stick parenting maybe causes serious psychological harm and personality distortions for children, so much so that they do not have a sense of security, self-esteem, self-confidence. The investigation reveals that the children will feel anger, pain and sadness after the beating. Some kids want to leave home, and some children even have the idea of suicide. As a result of long-term stick parenting, these children represent timid, poor self-confidence and depression.Worst of all, stick parenting as an educational model must have its limit. Some surveys also showed that most kids think corporal punishment of their parents light, while a small number of children think that parents corporal punishment is heavy even leaves scars. If the penalty exceeds the limit, causing harm to children, stick parenting would become a serious domestic violence, it will become a criminal offense in severe cases. People all over the world resist domestic violence and abuse resolutely. United Nations introduced the corresponding rules to punish domestic violence, a series of laws and regulations of our country also protect children from abusing and domestic violence.Granted, the wolf dad is one of the successful cases about stick parenting. He sent his three children to Peking University by stick parenting. However, as the proverb goes, one swallow does not make a summer. In our society, there are many parents make their children succeed through proper exchange and communication with their kids rather than stick parenting. Therefore, stick parenting is definitely not the right way for childrens education.To conclude, stick parenting is not a good choice for most kids, as it is short of respect for the rights of children, and may cause serious psychological harm and personality distortions for children.
