Language is the means for exchanging ideas between people. And language abilities, especially spoken English, play an important role in various aspects, largely deciding whether or not a job-hunter can be regarded as a potential qualified worker and therefore can be employed. But, in such circumstances, so many college graduates can not express their ideas freely in oral English and thus lose their opportunities. One of the important reasons is that the traditional methods of teaching oral English are out of date. To improve spoken English of college students and find new methods to teach are urgent tasks right now. So, a good command of a foreign language not only means mastering the language itself, but also involves the cultivation of cultural competence which is an important ingredient of communicative competence as well as the content of modern language education. This thesis attempts to work out some solutions to problems of culture teaching in English language teaching at college level, namely the content of culture teaching and the ways of culture teaching.The development of technology brings us a lot of effective ways of teaching oral English. Teaching oral English by culture is a practical way that actually widens students communicative abilities.一、论文选题的目的、意义要培养学生的交流能力,必须在进行语言教学的同时,进行目的语的文化导入,培养学生的社会文化能力,这是由语言本身的特点及语言和文化之间的关系决定的。把文化导入英语教学中以提高学生的语言交流能力是十分必要的。因为语言是文化不可分割的一部分,只掌握语言符号系统,而不学习其底蕴文化,就会造成说着一口流利英语,犯下严重语用错误的现象。随着我国对外开放政策的深入发展,我国的跨文化交流日益增多,因不同文化之间存在差异在交往中引发的误解时有发生,这些事实使更多的人认识到“社会文化能力”的培养在英语教学中的重要性。文化的导入可以激发学生的兴趣,满足他们语言学习的要求,从而促进英语教学,对语言学习产生积极的影响。在导入文化知识时,在教语言的同时结合语境的文化背景、文化内涵,一方面要经常给学生灌输一些英美文化习俗,另一方面还要不断纠正一些不适合英美文化习俗的语言。而且,英语学习中听、说、读、写、译,哪一个方面都离不了文化背景知识的掌握,只有这样才能更全面、准确的理解目的语。 鉴于此,笔者选择了在英语教学中文化导入的重要性这一论题,文中分析了文化导入在教学过程中的具体方法及途径,从多方面论述文化导入的具体内容,使其运用到英语教学中,使学生了解文化差异,提高交际能力。二、文献综述与国内外研究动态 文化教学在外语教学中的地位及语言教学与文化教学的关系的问题,是过去一个世纪以来外语教学领域中的一个重要的论题,越来越多的外语教育工作者认识到,与所学外语相联系的文化应当成为外语教学的重要内容和有机的组成部分,把文化教学引入外语教学己成为众多学者和外语教师的共识。关于教学中的文化导入,国内高校外语教育者发表多篇论述文章。束定芳,庄智象两位老师合著的现代外语教学中提出了有关文化导入的主要方法,丰富了教学环节中的实践性,如:融合法、实践法、和比较法。研究中国外语教育学的著名学者张正东教授,在其书中发表多篇关于外语教育教学与西方文化的文章,如:英语教学的发展研究。在国外,Eugene A. Nida 所发表的Language,culture and translation中也有将文化导入到英语语言的翻译中,可见在任何教育教学中文化的导入不容小觑。在教学中,文化的适当引入对语言学产生积极的影响。三、写作(研究)方法 定量分析法 文献研究法 举例说明法 归纳法 列举法 演绎法等In teaching English as a foreign language, the importance of teaching culture has been widely recognized. However how to teach culture in foreign language education is a problem faced by language educators all over the world. In the present thesis concerning linguistic theories and various ways of teaching foreign culture in the English classroom will be surveyed and studied in the light of Chinese situation. The present thesis stresses that culture teaching is very essential in the English language education. The teaching of language and the teaching of culture are of the same importance in the English classroom. Language and culture are closely related. In foreign language education, the definition of culture teaching should include all the human achievements of civilization and the ways of life and the different habits of people. Culture differences are reflected in languages and communicative activities. Furthermore it makes great difference in communication whether learners can understand or know the cultural differences, cultural rules, and even the cultural taboos. However, in traditional approaches to language teaching, the aims of a language teaching course are very often defined with reference to the four language skills : understanding speech, speaking, reading and writing. Culture teaching is not taken so important a teaching target as the above mentioned language skills. Because of the lack of cultural knowledge, students often make cultural mistakes when they communicate with native speakers.From years of my experience in teaching English, I gradually realize the importance of culture teaching to Chinese students. English teaching should be aimed at developing students communicative competence so that they would be able to react freely and proper with native speakers of English in various social situations.
