Mourners (哀悼者) gathered outside his house in Palo Alto, California, and Apple stores around the world. Steve Jobs made technology fun. As tech leaders, theyre really happy if they have one hit in their life. Steve Jobs has the Apple , the Mac, the iPod, the iPhone, the iPad and Pixar. Steve Jobs was a college dropout. He was adopted by a machinist and his wife, an accountant. They supported his early interest in electronics. He and his friend Steve Wozniak started Apple Computernow just called Applein 1976. They stayed at the company until 1985. That year, Steve Wozniak returned to college and Steve Jobs left in a debate with the chief executive. Mr. Jobs then formed his own company, called NeXT Computer. He rejoined Apple in 1997 after it bought NeXT. He helped remake Apple from a business that was in bad shape then to one of the most valuable companies in the world today. However, Steve Jobs stepped down as Apples chief executive in August because of his health. He died a day after the company released a new iPhone version that met with limited excitement. Steve left behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple. President Obama said in a statement: by building one of the planets most successful companies from his garage, Steve Jobs exemplified the spirit of American ingenuity (独创力); by making computers personal and putting the Internet in our pockets, he made the information revolution not only accessible, but intuitive (有直觉力旳) and fun. The fact that he was able to redesign American business from top to bottom and across is really stunning. The closer you are to the exam, the more chance you have of storing and retaining crucial information. But do not overdo it. 20 An effective daily routine can help you through an exam period, so in the days leading up to your first exam, get into the habit of being up and ready to work by game. It can be a shock to the system after months of working to your own timetable to be mentally alert at that time if you have not prepared for it. On the day of the exam, have a good breakfast, pack everything you need (pens, pencils, erasers, etc. ), then make your way to the examination hall in good time. 21 Once in your seat, simply pause for a few seconds and collect your thoughts. Close your eyes and take a few slow, deep breathes to help you relax. When you turn over the test paper, spend a short period reading through all the instructions and questions, paying particular attention to key verbs such as “discuss”, “compare” and “evaluate”. 22 It is wise always to allow for 10 minutes at the end of the exam to give yourself time to go back over your answers. Once you have selected the questions you wish to tackle, begin by attempting the one that you think is your strongest. It will give you more confidence when you see a well-answered question down on paper. Also remember to write clearly, and do not be afraid to express the unexpected: after all, examiners can get very bored marking stereotypical answers. 23 If you do need something else to focus on to help collect your thoughts, choose a fixture in the room, such as the ceiling or anything else that will not allow you to be distracted (分神). Finally, once you have finished, never hang around outside afterwards to attend the discussion by other students. 24 A. Do not arrive too early, though, as other peoples anxiety can be contagious(会传染旳),and you may suffer from undue panic. B. Try not to be tempted to look at those around you, or at the clock. C. When you get home, read the examination paper through and look up all the words you didnt understand. D. Sleep, exercise and relaxation are all just as important. E. Map out a quick plan of points you wish to make and how much time you should spend on each question. F. Go and have a well-earned rest, then prepare for your next exam. G. Underestimate the test in your mind. 答案解析第二节答案:2024. DAEBF*结束The most frightening words in the English language are, “Our computer is down.” You hear it more and more when you are on business. The other day I was at the airport waiting for a ticket to Washington and the girl in the ticket office said, “Im sorry, I cant sell you a ticket. Our computer is down.” “If your computer is down, just write me out a ticket.” “I cant write you out a ticket. The computer is the only one allowed to do so.” I looked down on the computer and every passenger was just standing there drinking coffee and staring at the black screen. Then I asked her, “What do all you people do?” “We give the computer the information about your trip, and then it tells us whether you can fly with us or not.” “So when it goes down, you go down with it.” “Thats good, sir.” “How long will the computer be down?” I wanted to know.“I have no idea. Sometimes its down for 10 minutes, sometimes for two hours. Theres no way we can find out without asking the computer, and since its down it wont answer us.” After the girl told me they had no backup(备用) computer, I said. “Lets forget the computer. What about your planes? Theyre still flying, arent they?” “I couldnt tell without asking the computer.” “Maybe I could just go to the gate and ask the pilot if hes flying to Washington, ” I suggested.“I wouldnt know what gate to send you to. Even if the pilot was going to Washington, he couldnt take you if you didnt have a ticket.” “Is there any other airline flying to Washington within the next few hours?” “I wouldnt know, ” she said, pointing at the dark screen. “Only IT knows. It cant tell me.” By this time there were quite a few people standing in lines. The word soon spread to other travelers that the computer was down. Some people went white, some people started to cry and still others kicked their luggage.1. The best title for the article is _.A. When the Computer Is DownB. The Most Frightening W
