To use Yes/No questions and short answers to talk about likes and dislikes.2. Ability goal: To train students speaking and listening abilities.3. Emotion goal: To help students develop a good habit of eating.4. Culture goal: To pay attention to differences of diet between China and Western countries.5. Strategy goals: a. To study in pairs. b. Personalizing.c. Classifying.IV. Teaching key point: Yes/No questions.V. Teaching difficult point: How to use Yes/No questions and short answers to talk about likesand dislikes in real life.VI. Teaching procedures:Step1: Lead in (5 minutes) Review what have learned in this unit.Step2: Learn the new words (3 minutes)Show the pictures of egg, carrot, chicken with each English name underneath. Pointing to the item one by one, teach its name and have students repeat. Then to check individually.Step3. Activity 1a (7 minutes) a. Require students to read words in the box and tell the Chinese meanings. Then let them have a look at the pictures. Ask students to write the number of each word in the box next to the picture of that food. Check the answers with the whole class. Answers: 3, 4, 7, 9, 6, 8, 10, 2, 5, 1 b. Ask students to look at the picture carefully and ask what they found. Introduce the new words: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Let them guess their meanings according to the picture. Use structures “Do you like for breakfast?” “Yes, I do. / No, I dont.” “I like for breakfast.” to talk about likes and dislikes. (This activity provides practice reviewing the key vocabulary words presented in section A and introduce some more food names.)Step4. Pair-work 1b (10 minutes) a. Teach students the words: fruit and vegetable. Use affirmative and negative statements to talk about likes and dislikes. “Do you like fruit/ vegetables?” “Yes, I do. / No, I dont. ” And tell them the importance of eating fruits and vegetables as to help them to develop a good habit of eating.b. How many other food words can you add to the chart? Try to write them down in the chart.Fruits:Vegetables: Suggested answers: Fruits: banana, apple, pear, orange, strawberry, grape, watermelon, lemon Vegetables: broccoli, tomato, potato, cabbage, bean, onion (This activity helps students to consolidate vocabulary. Its also trains students ability of classifying.)Step5. Listening (10 minutes) a. Ask students to read the numbered words in 1a again. Then require students to finish listening 2a.Play the tape for the first time. Students only listen to catch the main idea.Play the tape again. Students circle the words they hear.Check the answers.Answers: broccoli, salad, ice cream, apple, banana, orange, carrot.(This activity provides practice recognizing the key word in spoken conversations.)b. Get the students to have a careful look at the chart and the sample answers in 2b.Play the recording. Students listen and fill the chart. Then they check answers with each otherPlay the recording again. Pair-work 2c (10 minutes) a. Ask a pair of students to read the dialogue in the bubbles. Then student ask and answer questions about what Sandra and Tom like and dont like in pairs. Tell them to use information from chart in 2b. Walk around classroom to offer any help they need. Give students a longer time in this part so that they can review the structure“Does Tom like?”“Yes, he does./ No, he doesnt.”Finally a few pairs will perform the dialogues. b. Require students to look at the breakfast, lunch and dinner in 1a. Are they Sandras or Toms? Ask students to find out the answers. Check the answer Answers: breakfast S lunch T dinner T Step7. Homework a. Make a survey about “What do your parents like or dislike?” after class. b. We have learned many names of foods so far. But what kinds of foods are healthy or unhealthy?
