perceived images heavily influence product acceptance the appearance of a product can deliver the promise of excellence in performance and functionality The cosmetic appearance of the outside of a product sends an important message to the customer about total quality from the company behind that product Through high standards for painted parts Dell can reinforce its dedication to long term customer satisfaction 2 1 Purpose Objective The purpose of this document is to provide a paint performance specification for plastic sheet metal and cast parts for use by Dell and suppliers worldwide 2 2 Scope This specification defines the Dell Computer Corporation paint performance requirements for paint applied to plastic sheet metal and cast substrates 2 3 References ASTM D2247Standard applicator shall determine dry film thickness requirement to achieve optimal paint performance as prescribed in this specification and meet color performance requirements Dry film thickness maximum and minumum shall be approved by Dell Mechanical Engineer prior to production and shall be specified on the piece part drawing 3 13 Surface Conductivity ESD For Metallic Parts 表面導電性表面導電性 ESS 6255 probe is close to the surface 4 Color quirement ASTM D1729 Paint color shall be determined from the piece part drawing and conform with the following spec Dell Corporate Cosmetic Specification P N 6724U SPEC DELL COSMETIC CORP STD 5 Texture Requirement Texture requirement shall be determined from the piece part drawing 6 Qualification Procedure 6 1 Paint Qualification Process for Non Production Program Builds Note Paint formulation that has already been approved by Dell for previous programs does not need to go through the paint qualification process for non production program builds 1 Dell or its approved agent shall provide color standards gloss texture and paint performance this specification requirements to paint supplier 2 Paint supplier formulates paint to Dell s requirements and provides four 4 labeled color chips Paint will be applied using Dell approved equipment and chip size to be no smaller than 3 x 5 Color chip label information should include Dell color name and number Name of paint supplier Material type and number Supplier color match number Date color chip was painted Number of coats applied Thickness of paint applied 3 Chips and documentation are to be shipped to Dell Industrial Design Department or its approved agent Instructions for shipment of samples to Dell or its approved agent for evaluation are available upon request 4 Dell Industrial Design Department or its approved agent will evaluate the submitted samples meet the color and gloss requirements set forth on the color standard and from the Dell Corporate Cosmetic Specification Dell P N 6724U 5 If approval of paint is granted approval will be provided in writing 6 Once approval is received the paint may be used for non production program builds Note Mass production approval will only be granted after both supplier and applicator meet the qualification requirements listed in section 6 2 If paint needs to be reformulated to meet the performance and color requirements set forth the new formulation we need to be resubmitted for approval following the process outlined in this section prior to a mass production qualification effort 6 2 Production Qualification Requirement 6 2 1 Paint Supplier Requirements The paint supplier shall be responsible to perform the following qualification tests to show paint product meets the paint performance requirements outlined in this specification and on the piece part drawing prior to shipping paint product to paint applicators for mass production parts on any program All testing shall be conducted on the substrate material for which the paint was formulated except Direct Impact If the paint has already been qualified on previous programs then the paint supplier shall perform the on going quality tests mentioned in section 6 3 1 as paint qualification on the new program Color 120 total samples 4 different lots 30 samples per lot Gloss 120 total samples 4 different lots 30 samples per lot Texture 3 samples for production qualification Adhesion 3 samples for production qualification Film Hardness 3 samples for production qualification UV Resistance 3 samples for production qualification Cure 3 samples for production qualification Abrasion 3 samples for production qualification Practical Washability 3 samples for production qualification Solvent Resistance 3 samples for production qualification Humidity Resistance 3 samples for production qualification Direct Impact 3 samples for production qualification Thermal Cycling 3 samples for production qualification Dry Film Thickness 3 samples for production qualification Surface Conductivity 3 samples for production qualification 6 2 2 Paint Applicator Requirements The paint applicator shall be responsible to perform the following qualification tests to show paint on the finished product meets the paint performance requirements outlined in this specification and on the piece part drawing prior to shipping finished product for assembly All testing shall be conducted on the finished product Color 120 total samples 4 different lots 30 samples per lot Gloss 120 total samples 4 different lots 30 samples per lot Adhesion 3 samples for production qualification Film Hardness 3 samples for production qualification Cure 3 samples for production qualification Dry Film Thickness 3 samples for production qualification Solvent Resistance 3 samples
