IthassubsequentlyfoundinAntarcticaaswell Thecurrentclimaticzonesfortheseregionsaretoodiversetoallhavesupportedthisplant InordertoexplainthedistributionofGlossopterisduringthesametimeofEarthhistory Wegenerconcludedthatthesefossilswereconvincingevidencethatthecontinentswereoncejoinedintoa supercontinent EvidenceforContinentalDrift3 RockTypeandStructuralSimilaritiesWegenerfoundsimilarrocktypesandgeologicstructuresoncontinentsonoppositesidesoftheAtlanticOcean Themapshowsthat ifthecontinentsarejoinedtogether themountainsformacontinuousbelt Thismountainbeltis 300millionyearsoldandrepresentsthetimewhenthecontinentscollidedtoformthesupercontinentPangaea TheAppalachianMountainstrendalongtheeasternflankofNorthAmerica MountainsofsimilarageandstructurealsoappearinScotlandandtheCaledonianMountainsofScandinavia EvidenceforContinentalDrift4 Wedevelopscientifictheoriestoexplainourobservations Wegener sworkmaymorecorrectlybeanhypothesis Itwasnotuntilthe1960 sthatfurtherdataledtothedevelopmentofthetheoryofplatetectonicsthatcouldexplainthemovementofcontinents Wegener sideaofcontinentaldriftwasnotgenerallyacceptedbecausenoonecouldcomeupwithareasonablemechanismforthemovementofthecontinents Untoldtragediesofcontinentaldrift
