Though that is an excellent habit, it also means cutting down precious trees. But what if the book could transform back into a tree? Now thanks to a Brazilian childrens book publisher, that is possible! The “Tree Book Tree” program is the brainchild of Argentinas Pequeno Editor and FCB Buenos Aires. Their first creation Mi Pap Estuvo en la Selva, has been around in regular format for many years. In the book, a young boy takes the readers on an exciting journey of his fathers adventures inside an Ecuadorian jungle. The book that is made from acid-free paper, printed with natural ink and hand-stitched(手工缝合), is completely recyclable. Jacaranda(蓝花楹) seeds are carefully sewn into the pages to help it transform into a tree. After a kid has finished reading the book, he/she waters the cover and places it in a sunny area inside the house. Once the seeds come out, the book can be planted in the dirt in any location the owner decides. From then on, the book just has to be nurtured(培育) like any other plant. Franco says they picked the Jacaranda, because “Its a tree that provides excellent shade and offers a tot of oxygen to the environment.”The only unfortunate part is that the publishers are not planning to transform their other titles or even make more copies of this “tree book” anytime soon. This non-commercial project was just a one-time project to make everyone aware of the resources used when producing something even as common as a book.24What is special about the book Mi Pap Estuvo en la Selva?AIt can be read again and again.BIt can be easily stored for future use.CIt can transform into a tree if planted.DIt is about an exciting journey in the jungle.25What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?AA brief introduction to the book.BSome benefits of acid-free paper.CThe environmental effect of the book.DThe process of putting seeds into the book.26According to Paragraph 4, after finishing reading the book, a kid can _.Anurture the book in the dirtBput the book away on a shelfCuse the book to protect flowersDsow Jacaranda seeds into the book27The non-eommercial project aimed to _.Ainspire people to read booksBmake more copies of this bookCtransform more books into treesDencourage people to value resourcesCI watched the two of them, both a year old, on the floor, surrounded by candy. He crawled on his hands and knees while she sat there looking at her birthday dress. The colorful fishie(彩罐) had just been broken and the candy littered the ground. Both of their kids were too young to realize that they were sitting, and crawling around in a collection of wrapped sugar goodies. They were surrounded with edible(可食用的) goodies but had no clue!Suddenly I saw the life metaphor(比喻). If we are the “babies” and the candy is “opportunity,” often we dont recognize it because the opportunity comes wrapped as hard work. We may not give the wrapper the time of day, unless we realize that inside theres a piece of delicious candy.Every tree starts as a seed. Every person who becomes well-known was once someone nobody “knew.” So what changed for these people? Did the world suddenly wake up and find they have the potential to succeed? Of course not. These people worked for long periods of time before they saw any payoff. It can be disheartening when youre starting out. Theres a huge learning curve for almost everything. Just when you feel like youre making rapid progress, you realize theres more to learn. Every new door opens to a brand new room, with another door at the end. When I was in recovery from my eating disorder, there were many opportunities that I didnt recognize as candy. At first, I didnt see therapy(治疗;疗法) leading anywhere. It was only by going to therapy every week for a year that I was finally able to realize the opportunities. I had the opportunities to examine and adjust my thinking, and to challenge the negative mindsets I had about my life. When I look back, I find that many of the opportunities that allowed positive growth didnt always appear easy or fun. They often appeared as something that looked like hard work. But when we focus, consistently show up, and put in hard work, it will result in candy.28Why do many people miss their opportunities according to the author?ATheir hard work fails to pay off.BThey dont work hard consistently.CThey havent realized their potential.DThey dont value their opportunities.29What does the author think of the learning process according to Paragraph 4?AIt is often interesting for most people.BIt is often long and hard for most people.CYou can speed it up with the help of others.DYou can predict your progress from its start.30How did the authors eating disorder affect her emotionally?AShe lacked hope for her life sometimes.BShe was unwilling to do therapy at first.CShe refused to change her eating habits.DShe liked eating candy very much.31What would be the best title for the text?APower of positive thinkingBCandy and achievementsCHard work leads to successDOpportunities come candy-wrappedDA rare striped(有斑纹的) rabbit, seen only a few times, has run out of its tropical forest home. A graduate student got the chance of a lifetime holding and photographing the little guy on the first day of a three-month period to study the animals habitat. The striped rabbit has been spotted only in the old tropical forests of the northern and central Annamite Mountains between the borders of Vietnam and Laos.Researcher Sarah Woodfin, who is working under rabbit expert Diana Bell, has always loved rabbits. She and Bell decided to focus on the striped rabbits of Southeast Asia because there is so little known about them. Woodfin said the rabbits have only rarely been photographed in groups, suggestingthey lead solitary adult lives.Although rabbits have the reputation for being productive breeders, several species are actually at risk of dying out. The Amami rabbit, for example, is under threat from invasive predators(掠食者), and other rabbit species are threatened by warming climates.During the 1950s, a virus reduced the rabbit population of the grasslands in southern England. Without rabbits to eat the vegetation, shrubs(灌木丛) took over the area and affected the habitat for butterfly and bird species. Southeast Asia may be at similar risk. Currently, the region is bursting with biodiversity, but deforestation(砍伐森林) could soon change that.“More research is necessary to understand why the rabbits have been pushed into isolated forests in Southeast Asia. It is possible that the rabbits once lived in other forest habitats, but that hunting drove them from those spots. We need to know more about the rabbits before that could be properly assessed,” Woodfin said.32What do we learn about the striped rabbits of Southeast Asia?AThey like living near people.BThey are a mystery to most people.CThey can be widely seen in Vietnam.DThey like running out of their habitat.33The underlined part in Paragraph 2 probably shows that the striped _.Alive aloneBgrow happilyCprepare for adult lifeDbehave in an intelligent way34What is threatening the Amami rabbit according to the text?AClimate change.BIts lower birthrate.CDecrease in the grasslands.DNew species in its habitat.35What can we infer from Paragraph 4?ADeforestation will become a global problem.BThe biodiversity of Southeast Asia will be threatened.CButterflies in Southeast Asia have been an endangered species.DRabbits in southern England destroy the habitat for bird species.第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Were all guilty of making comparisons sometimes. Its a normal process that helps us figure out who we are and where we belong.36We think, “ How am I like her, and how am I not like her?”Are comparisons good or bad?Its not always bad to compare yourself-sometimes it can push you to improve your skills. Unfortunately, though, we hear a lot of girls say they think a friend is prettier because she has different hair, different skin, or a different body type than they have.37Besides, theyre unfair. If you always try to be someone else, youll never win. So stop the negative self-talk and focus instead on being the best version of yourself.38So we should appreciate ourselves based on those unique qualities, not on how we compare to someone else.Learn to love yourselfInstead of trying to be like someone else, put your effort into becoming the best possible you. That doesnt just mean taking care of yourself by exercising and eating well, but also trying to be the best friend you can be. You are the only one in control of how you act and treat people.39Just by taking care of yourself and looking your best, youll start to feet more confident.40When that happens, just remind yourself of all the beautiful qualities you have, and the reasons you are awesome and unique. Think about your talents and focus on how you can improve.Instead of getting hung up on the people around you, just be the best possible you. Theres really no comparison!ADont be afraid to make changes.BSo be a friend you would love to have.CWe are each unique in our awesome ways.DThose types of comparisons can destroy your confidence.EMost of the time, we dont even mean toits just how our brains work.FEven so, youll probably still catch yourself making comparisons sometimes.GComparing your looks with other girls is like comparing apples and oranges. Ever since I was young, I have loved professional wrestling.
