教学相长的基本要求教与学是一个复杂的双边活动.缺少任何一方的积极性都不会达到预期学习目的.以学生为中心?以教师为主导的外语学习要求教师首先是课内外学习活动的管理者.教师如果只管课堂,不管课外学习,充其量只完成了教学任务和活动的的三分之一,因为学生的课堂学习固然重要,但大学生的课外学习更为重要.外语学习是一种感情的交流过程?教师在讲解课文或引导学生阅读课外读物时?势必把自己对异民族文化的理解和感受传授给学生?引起学生心灵上的反响?教师在整个外语教学过程中势必自觉或不自觉地用自己做人的准则和对人生的体验来影响学生?在这种感情交流的过程中?教师必须为人师表?以自己高尚的品德和个人魅力吸引学生和感化学生?教会学生学会如何做人?教会学生如何做事。 那些对学生冷酷无情、尖酸刻薄者?那些愤世嫉俗、牢骚满腹、怨天忧人者?还有那些自以为是?居高临下?经常训斥学生者?势必受到学生的排斥。 外语学习是一种体验?这种体验势必包括痛苦和欢乐。 在学习处于进步阶段时?学习者自然感到欢乐,在学习遇到挫折时?特别是学习进入滞留期(stagnant)时?自然感到痛苦。 教师的职责不仅是分享学生的欢乐?体验他们的痛苦?更重要的是如何帮助学生把痛苦转变成欢乐。
